Yeah, we're getting a light dusting here which means a general panic in Chattanooga.

This doesn't bode well for my wife's Christmas package that has fallen into the SmartPost black hole abyss between our new local FedEx terminal and Post Office located about a mile apart from each other and less than 5 miles from my home. Now they can blame a snow dusting 'blizzard' for another week of cluelessness. Oh well... at least it gives me something to gripe about during an otherwise pleasant holiday season.

We may get some snow this weekend. Usually our snows come after Christmas. Snow's not too bad. After all it is the middle of December.

I'd rather have a little snow than a Christmas like the one they are having in California.

My husband's height translated into Portuguese is 198cm.

When we travel in Europe, with so many of it's guest beds equipped with both headboards and footboards, we often need to disassemble and reassemble beds so that he fits with his feet hanging off. He sometimes feels like Gulliver in the land of Lilliputians.

No snow here in the Carson Valley, but cold. Yesterday morning I had to break the ice in my horse's water. I'm not exaggerating; 3 inches thick.

Last year we had snow and ice. My studded snow tires did their job. Going over the Sierras on Hwy 88 is also fun. There are times when the California DOT requires chains for 2WD vehicles and chains or snow tires for 4WD vehicles, and a reduced speed of 25 mph for all vehicles. This is where the fun starts. There are people who think they know all there is to driving on ice and snow. "Chains? That's for other people. Reduced speed limit? Not for me." The best I have seen was a 6 car accident. Then further on was a 3 car accident. I have to admit that I enjoy seeing these accidents that are due to some drivers' arrogance and stupidity.

Ok=here's what we do ==We have a Donner Party Memorial Barbecue every year:

Stock up on:


"Lady's Fingers" (Harder to find a real lady anymore, so any young woman will do)
Italian Sausage (Anyone one with an Italian name will do)
Polish (See above) Sausage
Tartar Sauce (Tartars are REALLY hard to fund=might have to settle for any Turk).

Wife was at Claimjumper and gave our name for a table. A few minutes later, they announce "Donner Party! Donner Party for dinner!" and she said "That's us!" Saw only a few people smiling.........

Know that area well; lived there for over 20 years. Used to shoot at Carson Valley clays as well as Capital and Walker River.

Hwy 50 heading west out of S Lake Tahoe is another "fun" road when it's snowy and icy

First winter with this company my boss, who is back East, told me I could only rent a sedan for a trip up that way. A 4x4 was too expensive. I told him that's OK, just to be aware that I may be turned around if there is snow on those grades due to the rules. He accepted the explanation but then said "Oh, so you would have to back track to find an alternative route?" I suggested he spend some time on Google maps checking out how many alternatives exist in Nevada and get back to me. Now if the weather looks iffy I simply don't go. Apparently I don't do anything important enough to justify a 4x4 rental. Good old bean counters.

According to my sources, the snow goes from somewhere North of Austin all the way down to Monterrey in Mexico. Sure looked ugly down there while I was watching their big soccer game last night.

When snow hits US 95 North of Beatty the "chains and 4x4" signs are uncovered on certain grades that go to 6000' or more and NHP are there to enforce the rules.

First winter with this company my boss, who is back East, told me I could only rent a sedan for a trip up that way. A 4x4 was too expensive. I told him that's OK, just to be aware that I may be turned around if there is snow on those grades due to the rules. He accepted the explanation but then said "Oh, so you would have to back track to find an alternative route?" I suggested he spend some time on Google maps checking out how many alternatives exist in Nevada and get back to me. Now if the weather looks iffy I simply don't go. Apparently I don't do anything important enough to justify a 4x4 rental. Good old bean counters.

I used to be 185cm. Now I'm down to 183cm.

Snow here too, in the Heart of Dixie. Schools are closed and the roads are too slick to go to work, but are still safe if you are deer hunting.

How far are you from Baton Rouge? I have close kin that lives there.

It's snowing down here and the way it looks now we might be socked in until Spring It's accumulating and has now covered the lawn. I now know how the Donner party felt. DO I hunker down or do I chance it and try to get out. Worst of all, I DON'T have a dedicated snow gun.

I say, hunker down and get some fool--er person to deliver you several large pizzas-and whatever is yer liquid poison? then hunker in front of the tv and watch a westerns marathon of yer own makings.

I think you talked yourself into taking the day off. personally I wouldn't want to be out on the road with a bunch of people that don't know how to drive in snow.

Boy that's for sure .. Was in Alexandria, Louisiana back in the early 70's and had a 1/2 inch ice storm .. People driving like the roads were dry ..

After several people were killed in car accidents the Base Commander closed the base and told anyone off base to stay there until the roads had melted ..

Only people who knew how to drive in it were us northern boys ..

I can't stand the thought of this first winter storm business! I hate winter to start with and can't stand the white stuff and it aftermath. I just despise this time of year!
