I’m sorry…..Primers

I feel like I need to say I'm sorry.

I buckled to the pressure and bought some $100/ box CCI 200 primers from Natchez which cost me $150 by the time all of the possible fees and bull could be added on.

I did it to feed my Contender loads instead of wasting my Fed GMM LR primers to build loads. I need these to get some hunting rifles going.

I'll never feel good bout this as now I feel like I'm part of the prolonged primer price recovery

I guess on a positive note, they were only 4 times the price of my last box and they are available.

They're all over the place. Our Cabelas was $14 a box, one local guy was $10, another $9.50, while a regional chain was $5.25 but limit of 200 per person per day. I went with the $5.25 I'm sure Cabelas is getting them as cheap or cheaper than the other chain store, but they're obviously scalping.

Cabela's (Columbus. Ohio) was $89.99/1000 on CCI Small rifle and Large Rifle last week Limit 1 K Same on another brand of pistol primers.

They no longer have limits on ammo or components (except primers).

It boils down to two choices, pay the money and shoot or stop shooting. So long as you're not robbing juniors college fund, your bills are paid and everyone is eating regularly, there's no reason to feel guilty. I'm finding primers locally for about $100. The mail order places have it cheaper but by the time you pay shipping and hazmat fees, it works out to about the same. Just about everything is available around me now but all of it is expensive. What isn't these days?

Haven't seen one primer on the shelf in my local place for nearly three years. This is never going to end. I'll load what I have and sell my press and equipment to some fool who wants to get into reloading.

Got some email blasts from several different online retailers today for small and large pistol primers at $89.99/1000. Of course, the hazmat fee and shipping will foul that, but it's a bit better.

Might check Target Sports; I bought a carton of 5,000 CCI LP primers a few months back for $85.00 a thousand. Under $500 including shipping, haz. fee, and tax. Not a steal but a pretty good price and they were in stock.

Nothing to be ashamed of paying what you have to pay to keep shooting.
Some of us were more foresighted, than others, or simply had the blessing of a little extra free cash laying around, and were able to stock pile a few extra components when they were available, and cheaper.
We are all this the same boat, and even those who were stocked up, are going to feel the pain of this one of these days.

I sure hope that things get better, and return to some sort of normal before long. My hope is that powder will settle at about 40 a pound, and primers at around 50 per thousand.
With everything else higher than ever, I am not holding my breath.

I came across some small pistol Magnum primers today. The price was obscene but I bought 5 hundred anyway. I haven't seen any available for 3 years. The 44th President taught me to stockpile reloading components when available; however, I made a mistake in my inventory management and missed this one type of primer. Now I have some again.

I forget who, it was either Mid outh or Natchess that had a lot of powders at $30 a pound. So amortize an order across multiple pounds (like 4# jugs for even more savings) or order with a buddy, and you can be at $40 delivered. My "local" guy is at or below $40 for pistol powders and under $50 for rifle powders. Primers still about 100 per K though.

They bought 80,000 and really decreased the effects of S&H plus the Hazmat fee. The cost was just around $6,400 but that was spread over 4 loaders.

I don't think I would have bought 20,000 primers at that price but they each did. I still have faith they will come down well below that price, eventually.

Four months ago I paid $165 after shipping and hazmat for a thousand large rifle primers. I didn't like it but you do what you have to do.

I was stocked with all the other sizes of primers but never needed LRP's till I bought a new bolt rifle in .308, so I had zero stock of them.

I'm slowly seeing most other primers become slightly more available and somewhat less expensive but LRP's are still unicorns.

We are all just one click away from giving up and doing the same as you. I'm still holding out, but starting to get wild-eyed when I see any primers available. Won't be much longer for me either.

I doubt we ever see that again? But I'd be real happy @ $40-50 range.
