Any of you guys use Imr 700 x for 9mm?.
I find the load data so fluctuating in my two different books and any info on the net. I loaded up a few rounds using 115 grain hap Hornady bullets with 4 grains of powder. That load is below the max in both my books but over what the hodgdon load data suggests. With all.the talk of pistols kabooming I don't want any problems.

I am loading 4.0 IMR700 115gr 9mm. That works good for me. I stared at 3.5 and 3.7 and it wouldn't cycle the gun. I tried 4.1 and it was ok but when 4.0 works well I went back to that and have shot about 800 rounds.

No offense, your problem is you misread the data. HAP bullets are JACKETED, and the max is 4.2gr. per the Hodgdon data charts.

C.O.L. 1.125"

You will eventually get a feel for which sources of data are more trustworthy than others.

Myself, I go to the bullet manufacturer first. For the cartridges I load, Hogdon is way down the list - their data is very optimistic. Very low max loads with very inflated velocity numbers. Safe? Yes. Realistic? No.

Hornady is my favorite reloading manual, but I also buy mostly Hornady bullets.

I had to go to 4.1 to eject brass as 4.0 was a little flakey (not all the time). 4.1 works every time in a M&P 9 and SW9f that I shoot with original spring weight. It is also still below the max limit listed above. Although my speer #10 lists a max at 4.6 for the 125gr bullet.

There does seem to be great variation of 700x loading data for the 115gr bullets. I have 4 manuals and they vary from 3.1 to 4.6gr of 700x.

My first reloads were a few months ago with 700x. I used the spear load data and started at 4.0 and ended at 4.4 with 115 fmj and 1.135 OAL. I stuck with the 4.4 1.135 OAL and loaded the rest of the 200 I bought. All shot well in my M&P, XD and SAR.

I have loaded 115 gr Winchester FMJ with 4.4 gr 700X,CCI 500 primers, R-P brass at a cartridge OAL 1.151 with great results shot out of my Sig P239. I also backed it down to 4.2 gr and had no problems FTF. The Speer #14 lists 4.4gr as max and 4.0 as start wts but my Sierra V has 5.0 grs as max and 3.8 gr start.

I have good luck with Win 231 at 4.7 grs. which is listed as max in the Hornady 7th edition but Sierra 5th lists 5.3 grs max .
