In Search For The Perfect Grip For J Frame RB

Well I got my 442-2 with Uncle Mikes, They were changed for Hogue Bantams not long after then now I'm trying some plastic Boot Grips sent to me as a Gift from another Forum Member..
I'm Looking for the best purchase on the Firearm + Least Recoil due to the Grips..
I also want the grips to be Black or not very noticable for Stealthness..
Does Hogue make a Black Plastic Bantam Grip?
Or is there something else I'm missing??
Still In the Look for a Good IWB or Pocket Holster For the J Framed Smith & Wesson Too.

Hey B92,

My $.02 is:

First they must be small like the boot grips or Bantams, otherwise you defeat the purpose of carrying a small J frame to begin with.

Under the assumption of having a small grip to begin with, I like the Hogues Bantam or Spegel Boot Grips.

The Hogues are easier to shoot but catch clothing when concealed. The Spegel boot grips are what I normally carry, as they also fit my hand well and don't grab clothing.

Try a set of the standard Uncle Mike's J-frame round butt grips. They're longer than the boot grips, and cover the backstrap. I won't use anything else on my Js. They control recoil well, point naturally for me, and aren't so large that they compromise concealability, even in a pocket.

You might also consider a cheapie Uncle Mike's #3 pocket holster. Works well and shows less than any of the better grade of pocket holsters.

This probably not even close to what you're looking for but they are made to fit both the gun and your hand. height of grip can be whatever you want.
This is a Herrett's Dectective model on my 60-7 LS

One thing about wood is that it doesn't catch on things like rubber does.

How about a set of polymer crimson trace laser grips. They are about the same size as the Uncle mikes boot grips, but give the advantage of the laser. That is what my 442 is wearing.

My Old CrapCam2000 doesn't even have the ability to focus, Needs to be replaced badly.
I'm gonna look into one of those cheap Uncle Mike's Pocket Holsters, But realy want a nice Boned Leather Pocket Holster, Black Of Course!!
I may pick one up at the next gunshow..
I haven't tried shooting the Airweight with my newly aquired plastic grips but they don't snag & feel decent to my hands..We'll see how the feel under +P recoil..

I have carried a concealed J frame often since 1985 and have experimented with many grips. Rubber grips "print" with clothing over them and I have actually found qualification scores to go DOWN when using them (for me and other cops on the range). For comfort, shootability, and concealability the Spegel boot grip is the best I've found. Second place would be factory wood grips with the tyler T-grip adapter. I know many other gun-nut lawmen who have come to the same conclusion over the years.

Check out www.badgercustomgrips.com Jim Badger makes some really fine grips, he has two finger and three finger wood grips for J-frames in several colors of exotic woods, including black. For aound $60 they are a bargain.

You are welcome G, enjoy them....and all good suggestions too...but for me, the stock grips and t-grip are the set-up....no added bulk, clothes don't stick, and the checkering makes for a non-slip grip...I also like look of the t-grip....very old school NYPD ish...and if you really want to get old school, wrap a few rubberbands around your grip like some of the old timers did....

I prefer the Pachy Compact Professional models for my J frames. They leave the backstrap exposed and are a little longer than the boot type grips. And they do GRIP. The printing though clothing might be an issue with some clothing, but I have used them for a lot of years on the J guns, and they get the job done, for me at least.

The Hogue Rubber Bantams seem to me to be one of the best all around grips I've seen, They work great at the range controling recoil & feel good in the hands but they grab at everything, Clothing, Pockets etc..
I would love to come across a set of Craig Spegals wood grips for the J Frame/Centenial, I've seen some available starting at $70+ on the web..

I have a set of these $18.00 grips for J frames for almost 20 years. This is the first time I've ever seen anybody else with them. They are not pretty but they are very tough and they work great. They also make the same type of grips for K Frames. I find they add even less bulk than Spegels but give the same level of control. They feel better to my hand.

The set I bought for J frames about 20 years ago was textured with finger grips. The texture eventually wears smooth, so you wind up with smooth grips either way.

I just bought a set of the K frame ones for my Mod 13 3". In K frames the do not have finger groove models, only a choice of smooth or textured surface. I went with the textured again.

I recently bought a beautiful set of Spegel K frame combat boot grips. The mod 13 never looked so good. They felt very nice as well,but really not quite as good as the ugly PGS grips.
Unfortunately, the Spegels got a crack at the very bottom where the ser # is stamped in bottom grip frame. The crack was already starting to travel up the wood on the side of the grip. Luckily I was able to return them. All I did was put them on the mod 13 for a week in the house. Didn't carry it or shoot it in that time. Maybe there was an undetected flaw in that piece of wood? Who knows?

I won't spend that kind of money for fancy grips again, even if it was an isolated problem.
