In Search For The Perfect Grip For J Frame RB

I sometimes use this set of cutdown UM/Butler Creek combats that came on my M-60 for doing more than a couple of cylinders of shooting. They are not much larger than the original boot grips, but do cover the backstrap and don't seem as tacky as either Hogues or Pachmayrs to me. They do help recoil and don't take up alot of room. Sorry bout' the condition of the pic.

The rest of the time it wears these S&W combats with backstrap covered.

Both Great Lookin Grips WheelGunner 357!!
The cut down uncle mike's look realy good.
I saw a few pair of the factory wood like in your second pic at a local gun guru's shop, He wanted $49.95ea for em..They looked a little long for pocket use, But fill the hand nicely & look old school too,My Hogue Bantam Rubber just clings to everything so I'm now gonna try the plastic that sipowicz sent me..
And Yeah DD We must be on the same page dude.
I would love to see the textured grips that Malysh has.. Thier webpage only shows the one set same as at Brownell's..Smooth without FGs.
I even though about adding a texture myself, I've seen some great looking & feeling custom mods guys do to Glocks with a soldering Iron but adding a couple of pieces of the Inner Tube feel realy good on the PGS Grip..Great Idea!!
Thanks again for all the pics etc..
And if I spent $70+ on a set of fancy grips & they cracked before even shooting it, I would be very turned off on them too.. I will have to say that Craig & Kim make some great lookin grips Though.
Still in the look for the perfect set of grips..
Just not too big!! I May Have found them..
In fact the Uncle Mikes I sent sipowicz aren't as clingy as the Hogue, there made from a different type/hardness of rubber.
Thanks again, Keep em Comin!!

Don't forget you can take a bit of emory cloth to the hideouts and that will rough them up a bit...won't hurt the nylon at all...I did it when I first got em...I think the hideouts will serve you well...but it is the nature of the beast to keep looking and buying something else because once your gun is done, where's the fun?

Of course, with my old beater/house gun, a t-grip covered with a mountain bike tire tube does the trick...but I've never been a Ruger man....

Looks Like a GP100
But the Old School Grip lends me to believe it's a Ruger Speed Six..
Which is it?

You know me, I have two Ruger SP101s
One is a NYPD SPNY 38 Spl the other a 9mm one.

For a quick trip to the store in any kind of dress it's Barami Hip Grip and a Tyler T filler. For more formal occasions it's the stoke Uncle Mike's in a pocket holster or CoPilot.

As for pocket holsters, I asked this question before and researched it here.

Many people felt the Uncle Mike's pocket holster #3 worked fine, and for $10 was cheap to try either way. I couldn't find one locally. Since I'd have to mail order one and pay shipping, I decided to go with what seemed to be the next nicer and recommended option - Robert Mika's pocket holster. I think I ended up paying about $18 with shipping (which is probably about what it'd cost me to mail order the Uncle Mike's.) I like it for its cost. When it's new, it kind of wants to curve out, making a bulge, but will flatten out as it breaks in. It's a good fit to my pockets, but the gun can rotate a little in it.

The Kramer seems to be considered the ultimate, though, but at a price ($85). I may still get one. Someday. With the molding, the gun will maintain its orientation within the holster.

HEADKNOCKER:

Barami Hip grips and Tyler T-grips are very inexpensive at retail prices. Both Barami and Tyler are in business on-line, and I've purchased both products in the past year or so.

I have found the "original" T-grips on Ebay and in fact won one recently for about $15. It was old stock and I wanted a set for my old J-frame Centennial model 40.

I keep a Colt Cobra neatly stashed in my vehicle with a set of hip grips and T-grip on it. I figured if I ever broke down on the road someplace I could just slip the snubby in my waistband and pull my shirt over it.

Both products are excellent and reasonably priced in my opinion.

Best Wishes,

JP

Gary, I'm not looking for any new rugers but thanks....mine is a security six 357...I use it to qaul with when I don't feel like cleaning my 442 (I rarely clean the old ruger)...but boy, that ruger is a tank....re: the hip grip...it's a nice concept but you can't use it with a holster and I like to ankle carry quite often and don't want to be changing the grips...

How about the Galco pocket holster, seen below?
ViewMorePic.asp

Guess the Galco might conceal outline of weapon better but is stiffer. Presently, I'm using the DeSantis pocket holster.

I think the Hip Grip would be neat if your didn't ever use a holster & didn't pocket carry both of which I have been doing with the little Airweight.
I'm currenty using a few different holsters for my SP101s which are a little too big for the 442, I have Del Fatti, Bianchi & several Uncle Mike's Cheepies & a Nice custom made pocket holster for a Colt Detective Special..
WOW!! This went from a Grip Thread To a Holster thead & back..
sipowicz look into those Ruger Grips For $3.99
And those S&W J frame compacts look great to for that kind of Dough..
Also note they have some banana grip New in the wrap as well..
Let me know when you recieve the Grips DD..
Security Six? I thought that was a Speed Six but I guess there all Round Butts..

I sometimes use a Barami hip grip and Tyler T on my 642, especially in the summer when I need to conceal it under only a light T-shirt. It works great, although the recoil is somewhat more noticeable, I can handle a few cylinder's full if needed, and with the hip grips and Tyler T, the revolver just practically disappears, as it carries its holster with it

I would imagine that the Uncle Mike's Boot Grips feel better than the factory wood with the tyler t-grip but can't say for sure?? DD??
And I meant that most people replied about one or the other "Grips & Holsters"
Thanks for any & all responces..
I'll keep the forum informed of my final pick but any & all pics would be appreciated as looks are a big part of the magic & mystery of S&Ws..

Gary...I got the grips today...sorry, they were in my work mail box and I hadn't checked...thanks...as for the feel, I like the tyler grip a bit better than the boot grip...but I can't put my finder on why..

Today I sanded the PGS grips a bit, I sanded the back strap area the most making them fit he frames contours & roughed up the finger groove areas to my liking then applied some Armoural Non Greasy Formula, worked out great!!
Crappy Pic To Come!! I need a NEW Camera & have for years, But I keep buying guns instead!!
