Input on relocating - free America!

Looking for honest opinions from fellow wheel gunners on making a move to a more gun friendly state in the future. The wife and I are in the early planning stages.
This is what I have so far:
Living in New York means pretty much everywhere else has a better gun owning environment ( except maybe nj ca and mass)
So we are looking for:
1)Much better weather ( we have sort of narrowed our search to Texas Arizona Nevada due to the warm weather and low humidity )
I examined the Deep South ( ga fla la miss ala) but the humidity can be brutal I understand, plus some of those states are a bit cumbersome for my professional license so they are off the list.
2) modest cost of living including taxes and housing
3) area friendly to gun owners/ new residents ( I have heard also the Deep South often resents Yankee carpetbaggers)
Open to any and all suggestions
As a military retiree being near a military post to take advantage of some of the resources available would be nice but not required
I would want to be near a gun club that does a lot of formal events like bullseye ppc Icore sass rifle and so on.
Both the wife and I are medical professionals headhunted by lots of recruiters so I do not anticipate jobs being a factor.
I appreciate any and all input especially those from the Arizona and Texas regions.

You might rethink Georgia as far as the weather/humidity is concerned if you chose north Georgia, up here in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains.

Also, we have no problem with you Yankees...on one condition. You realize we are not the stupid redneck hillbillies as portrayed in the media and by Hollywood...and you need to assimilate, not try to change us to suit your old ways. You would be choosing to come join us, not stand off acting superior like a lot of Yankees do.

Central Indiana has always pulled me back from where ever I have roamed.

Decent weather but the main thing for me here is "Grandkids!

I have been here long enough that I have developed a good shooting range in the mined out portion of my gravel pit. My grandkids live about 3 miles away. We rent enough farm ground that we ( my son and I ) run about 2,300 acres of row crop plus hay ground for the cattle and I do not think I could move.

But I love it here most of the time!

Any particular part of TX? The Gulf Coast has hurricanes, the panhandle seems to be desert, according to bhayles Austin is out, R. G Amos says that Houston is out, and Dallas has the dog-pukin' Cowboys. I know it is a big state but what does that leave?

Charleston or Columbia, SC. I used to live in Beaufort. No one cared about Yankees. There were plenty of New Yorkers. Gun laws were not an issue.

Or you could move to this part of Wyoming. The winter has been milder overall than Michigan was. Wyoming does not require a permit to carry a gun, open or concealed, if you live here. You can hunt with a suppressor. State law essentially allows the arrests of Federal agents if they try to enforce gun laws contrary to State law and allows for making "Wyoming guns" with a claimed exemption from Federal regulation.

You can also carry whatever knife you want.

Sometimes "he needed killing" suffices for a jury, if someone did.

If I could live anywhere (assuming my job and my girlfriend's job would be there too), then we'd move to West Virginia.

I would say make sure its a RED state. Its got to be better then the Blue states.

I wish I still had that truck...I'd drive it around just fer fun.

I give a second vote for Georgia mountains cause I live near Augusta, GA. Hot and humid, but 100 to 150 miles north of here is paradise. Retirement pay has a large exemption on GA income tax law. Earned income is taxed at 5% or 6%. Gun laws are marvelous, carry permit is money, finger prints, and pass a background check.

My wife and I got disgusted with Mass so in 2008 we went North. Only about 200 miles but it's a whole different world. I've been all the way to Florida and back and we even set out on a 2 week excursion once and just poked around all the way down to North Carolina back up through Georgia and my god we couldn't stay outdoors down there for more than a few minutes if the sun was up. So damned hot the trip ruined an oxygen sensor on the vehicle we were driving. Not for me I'll tell you. Head North and buy cheap land I say. We don't run the AC more than a total of 2 weeks a year up here in Maine. Old Man Winter pays a visit for sure but that's just a reason to have a wood stove. Have enough land to cut your own wood and you can sneer at OPEC and know you ain't helpin to finance their shenanigans. We didn't move here to bring what we left behind with us. We were looking for a friendlier safer atmosphere more like when we grew up. When folks talked to each other and the neighborhood looked out for everyone around. We fit in right quick and these days it's a real surprise for someone to find out we are from away. No sir we wouldn't trade our spot out here in the sticks for anything else.

Don't know enough about the gun clubs here to know whether they fit your criteria, but otherwise Arizona would seem to provide what you are looking for. Assuming you are not opposed to surface of the sun hot for about four months of the year -- unless you wind up in the higher elevations, which have a lot fewer job opportunities.
