My county is behind in CCW renewals. I submitted the paperwork in May but have not received my renewal. My permit expired yesterday, and I will not carry until I can legally, because I am a law-abiding citizen. Of course, criminals have no such compunctions. Preaching to the choir, I know, but still frustrating..

Maybe the Nevada government has staffing problems from budget constraints...Any number of things could be at fault...Here the renewals are done online with credit card payment...My last renewal took less than five minutes online, and my new card was in my mailbox approximately 10 days later...No new prints or pic was needed......Ben

I just looked at LVMPD’s site, and they recommended submitting renewal applications four months prior to expiration. I know you’re a ways away from there. I wish you well. It’s always good to know how long your local agency takes . . .

You may want to check with your state's renewal laws. I think here in VA, if the renewal takes more than 45 days you're good to go until your new permit arrives. It won't hurt to find out.

Not a problem in MA. You get a receipt when you apply for renewal, and the application is sufficient until renewal or denial.

My advice to folks in other states will not appear on this forum, because it would violate two or more forum rules, and would display lack of common sense. On the other hand, those who have common sense don't need my advice.

Best wishes for all of us.

It's worse in Kiwiland

New firearms rules came into effect here several times after the March 15th 2019 mosque shootings in Christchurch.

It was taking 12 months for firearms license renewals to be completed. When I applied for the new "Prohibited Class" license (for the magazine to my M2 Carbine that was already on my collectors endorsement) I had to wait almost 6 months between the phone call saying it had been approved and sent for issue, and the card actually arriving.

Until last December the period between the old license expiring and the new ones being issued meant the licensee was unlicensed and not able to access firearms, due only to the delay in processing. The government passed legislation providing for the license to remain in effect after "expiry" if renewal had been applied and paid for before the expiry.

My licenses "expired" late last month, but I had got in 2 months early to renew and paid. My pistol club documentation has all been completed and was back with Firearms Licensing a month before the expiry date. One of my referees has been interviewed by video phone call. So far no contact for Karen to be interviewed (for the 3rd time) or inspection of my security.

That’s pretty sad. I can’t speak for all LEO’s (obviously) but I always had more important things to do than violate people’s 2A Rights. I always had a CWP/CPL even when I wasn’t required to but the only people I ever arrested for it were Felons in Possession of a Firearm. All States should have Constitutional Carry.

We had the same problem here in WA a couple of years ago. The state said that as long as you had submitted for renewal before your current permit expired, the current permit would be extended until the new one was issued or denied.
Though I'm sure that if you got caught carrying with an expired permit and were unlucky enough that the cop wanted to make an issue of it, you would probably have to go through the whole arrest & court process to then prove you had submitted for renewal before it expired.
I was fortunate enough to get my renewal before my current permit expired, but I probably wouldn't have carried until I got the renewal if I hadn't.

In my county, I go to the tax collectors office. Walk in, pay for the renewal, get my picture taken same as the DMV, and walk out with my new card.

I've been pointing out the irony (and silliness) of gun control a lot in the past few days...

As many of you are probably aware, there was an incident in Baltimore last Saturday night in which (at least) three young men showed up at a neighborhood block party and opened fire. About 30 people were shot, two of whom died, and about 5 or 6 are still hospitalized in critical condition.

Now then...the state of Maryland has some of the strictest gun-control laws in the country. Bans on "assault weapons," "assault pistols," and "Saturday Night Specials"...a seven-day waiting period and Maryland State Police background check for handgun sales...licensing of all handgun purchasers...no private sales of handguns except through a dealer...one-gun-per-month limits except for collectors...a 10-round magazine limit...and more. And yet, in Baltimore, a city of 570,000 people, there are more than 350 homicides annually, and almost 1,000 non-fatal shootings.

About 60 miles to the southwest, just outside of Washington, D.C., lies Fairfax County, Virginia, home to about 1,100,000 citizens (and the NRA Headquarters). Virginia's gun laws are as relaxed as Maryland's are strict, and yet there are only about 20 homicides annually in Fairfax County.

And yet, knowing this, the craven, empty-suit leaders here in Maryland insist that we need more gun control laws...

I want to scream...

I live in Illinois and my CCL was due to expire during the start of the Covid pandemic. I contacted the state and was told that I didn't need to renew, my CCL would remain valid for up to 18 month's after the state declared the pandemic emergency over. I said no thank's, I wanted to renew anyway, didn't want to be carrying with an expired CCL. Told them I would rather spend the money and renew than deal with the potential problems of carrying with a CCL that said it was expired.

I find it hard to believe that Nev. doesn't have some type of grace period if they are in the process of renewing the permit. Even here in the People's Republic Of Massachusetts, they carry you until the new permit is issued. Speaking of the irony of gun control, the nit wit politicians here don't miss an opportunity to tell the country that Mass. gun laws should be a model for the rest of the country. As I post this, the local news is on in the background and there has been about 35 shootings in and around Boston over the holiday. There are also a few stabbings thrown in for good measure. I guess when they are telling everyone how good things are working they are comparing Mass. to Chicago and NYC.
