Is it possible to swap the new 8 round cylinder from the 5" RB 63 to fit the older 4" SB 63 that came with a 6 round cylinder. I prefer the square butt and shorter bbl, but would like to carry the 2 extra rounds. If it is doable, how much work is involved? Thanks in advance.

I would venture to say the the internal parts of the two guns are different to coincide with timing of the cylinder.

I guess I will have to do that as nobody here seems to have the answer. I will post what I learn as it should also be of interest to thos 651 owners who would like an auxillary LR cylinder.

Check with the factory. If they say yes-please post as that is something I would consider doing with my 63.

Thanks Ken, I thought so. Is the timing dependant on the length of "the hand"? I figure the eight round cylinder has less to travel between chambers and so a shorter hand would be required. That said, if you also got a newer (shorter) hand would that bring the timing back into sync? Just an old guys wonderings. Thanks for your reply

It will most likely interchange, but the timing will be off.

I inquired about an extra cylinder for a mod. 651 in .22LR, the factory advised that they no longer offered that service. Do not know what the answer will be for a same caliber just more shots convert, please advise your findings.

I can tell you that the 22 LR Auxillary cylinder that I have for my Mod 650 has the same part # as the LR cylinder for the Mod 63. That being said, you should be able to swap the LR(63) for a WMR(651,650) provided you can find the parts. It should be noted that some folks believe the S&W 22 WMRs have a slightly larger(223.5) bore. You can't prove that by me since my 650 shoots to POA with both cylinders at 50'. You may not want to shoot jacketed WMRs to be safe, but you should have no problems with lead bullets as found in the Winchester Dynapoint Magnums(45gr) or the Winchester WRFs(45gr). And, both are easier on the ear than the full blown 40gr Mags like CCI Maxi-Mags or Win Super-X. If you pursue it, let us know how you made out.
