Is my 1969 Model 60 really "junk" ?

I wish I still had my 76 vintage M60 that I bought new. Traded it for a M640.
BTW the M60 started production in 1965 and by 69 they were already flash chroming the hammer & trigger so yours should by GTG.

Not junk to me. I bought an original model 60, and sold it when the LEO semi-auto change occurred. I regretted it ever since, so I just bought a new one. Both are fine to me. I don't worry about the lock, though I wish it wasn't there. Not enough to pay to have it removed though. I also bought a new model 637. I do love that model 60. Your's looks great to me.

That was a great deal.

I gave seven-and-a-half for this 1982 a few months ago. The previous owner that put it on consignment was formerly a member of the Secret Service and was on LBJ's detail up until his death in 1973. It came with the ivories..

That gun looks practically new, barely a turn line. You always have to take "gun opinions" with a grain of salt, because I don't see a whole lot of honesty in this hobby. Just my personal observations.

My FFL had a gun show last month at my house, I have a big garage. The model 60 at $475 was the first thing to go. The sale started at 9am, the gun sold at 9:01. A wise old collector purchased it, he said he had three other model 60s, but couldn't pass it up at that price. I say you got a great deal at $350. Just sour grapes from your dealer.

This was the same guy who received my, (now documented,) Bob Loveless S&W 41 Field Gun. He told me it wasn't worth anything, because most of the original factory marks were now gone. It was "just a chop job on a S&W 41." He thought that the $816.00 I paid was way too much. I should have realized his opinions were suspect.

Having run a few businesses where we relied upon having a good reputation and generating repeat customers, I am dismayed by the dealers behavior.
He should have known what he had and priced it accordingly. If for some reason he wanted to generate cash by selling at a discount, that too was his choice. If he knowingly sold a "bad" priduct (lets say a 1 percent chance) shsme on him. If he decided he could do better on ONE transaction and urinate away future business, double shame. If it were me I would not do business with him again.
PS, if you really think its junk PM me, I know someone who would be interested in it.

I've sold guns too cheaply myself,but I swallow the sour grapes-I don't say anything negative to the buyer. Everything was fine until he cast doubt on the deal.

Here is my 1969 (Rxxxx). You got a great deal and it is an excellent gun. I paid more for mine and then engraved it so I would never sell it.

I'm thinking you place of purchase as a local trading post does not move many guns and you were told something your seller was told by somebody that didn't have the cash or was trying to low ball him. You did fine.

Just because a guy has an ffl doesn't mean he has any gun knowledge or common sense.
Compare him to many new car salesmen that have only limited knowledge of the cars they sell, and what they don't know they just BS their way through to make a sale.
I would only use this FFL for deals like this one, and never ask or listen to his opinions .
I'd like to get a deal like you got on this beautiful little mod. 60, good luck with it.

Is anybody here old enough to remember what a sensation the 60 was when it appeared? EVERYBODY and his grandmother in the late 60s and early to mid 70s wanted one, and in NYC, they were few and far between. Obtaining one fit the definition of "pipe dream." It was the primo gun, in the same ballpark as the 29. It sold for a premium back then, as did other desirable Smiths.

I, too, am stunned at this dealer's conduct. I would never again patronize his shop: he likely has it in for you for refusing to sell it back to him, and your next purchase there would not be to your advantage.
