It's Happened Here In New York 01/15/13

No. It says "detachable" in the full text of the bill.
Please, people. Read the bill. It's all over the web for you to see. It's only 41 pages. These comments and freakouts about leverguns, revolvers, and pump shotguns are not helpful. READ THE BILL.
(Unlike the folks who voted for it)

awe comeon, party pooper :D

There are two New Yorks. There is the New York you all see on TV, and then there is the real New York. The people UPSTATE, as they call us, do not get the first bite of the apple. Now to clarify for all you libtards in westchester, orange, greene, suffolk counties and other parts down there, you are not UPSTATE...You are CITY...Unfortunately for us UPSTATE, the votes for the Dems are primarily in the City and surrounding counties so guess who wins. Hell, even most of the downstate repubs voted for this abortion.

Kind of like IL. There's Chicago, IL...and then there's the rest of Illinois that doesn't want anything to do with it yet, often times, is controlled by it. Hopefully you guys can find a way to bounce back and beat this as it's a violation of your rights.

Looks like Massachusetts is looking to make a splash as well........wow that is surprise ...not

OK, Listen up while I dispel some of the untruths about NY and add some of the truths, not necessarily in that order but you'll get my drift...
I feel your pain.

Here there is San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles and the rest of the state. Unfortunately, all people see is what comes out of those holes of stupidity. They tend to forget that the state is full of people that don't think like those three places.

Of course, it's our own fault. If we could just get everyone off their collective behinds and out to the polls, things would be different.

the massachusetts governor just proposed similar magazine restrictions amongst other things. NJ,CT,RI,DE,MD and CA are sure to follow suit shortly.

I have seen maps that are blue/red by county instead of by state. When you look at one of those, it's amazing how much of the country is red. Those are land owners, property tax payers, not apartment dwellers in high rises eating quiche.

Problem is that indicates land mass only and not population. It's hundred millions in those blue states and tens of thousands in the red. Turn a blue one red and we might have something

I'm seeing the comments about moving, the comment from Cali, "we needed help back when", the comments about theBIG cities being in charge of the whole state. someone saying "come to Texas". I'm a born and raised, almost 60 year old Texan and want to point out that Dallas is pure cityfied and democrat and trying to run the state. Can you say, "nobody, nobody is safe??? WE ALL NEED TO WAKE UP. The storm is a comming??? No, it's here...

I am wondering that after we register our AR's with the state and they know where they all are, if Cumo will do a "forced buy back" or just come and take them. I read that he has talked about it before. I wonder if I should sell or register and maybe risk a total cash loss.

no ned to wonder, it will happen. why do you think they want to know where they are?

Why seven? Why not, say four, or 5.3 ? Is this based on science or fairness?

Think about it. How many pistols with a detachable magazine hold less than seven rounds? I can think of a few that hold only six if unmodified, like the Glock 36, but most hold seven. Is there a Kahr or other subcompact with a single column magazine that holds less than seven?

AFter a period of time the State of NY will have "banned" or more accurately rendered impotent 99% of all semi auto's on the street w/o having to confiscate a single gun or ban a single gun. No magazines b/c none that are compliant are being produced for the relatively small market demand in NY so those single shot semi's are discarded, thrown in a drawer and forgotten about, sold out of state, etc.

Of course that is if all semi owners abide by the law. Of course the criminals will still have full capacity magazines.

Now Mass is proposing the same thing...

7 round max
and 1 year to get rid of any mags over 7 rounds!!!

Who will be next?

New York State has passed the toughest gun control laws in the country. We here in New York will have to surrender, or sell out of New York State, any magazine which holds more than 7 rounds of ammo within one year or be charged with a misdeamor. *Note* If your pistol's hi-cap magazine can be replaced with a ten round magazine, like during the 1994-2004 ban, and no 7 round magazines are available for it you have three months to get ten rounders, BUT cannot put more than 7 rounds in it or it's a crime. After 3 months no good, it's a crime to get ten rounders. You cannot keep any hi-caps and load them with 7 rounds after a 1 year time frame. They have to be disposed out of state , providing the feds do not make the same NYS restrictions the law of the land. Also for the first time our Pistol Permits (which one has to have in order to even own/possess any handgun) will have to be renewed , Nassau and NYC renew their permits, most NYS counties didn't until now. They were lifetime issued until/unless revoked. Now no Permit, no handguns allowed to be owned/possessed, even if you don't carry a concealed weapon, you will not be allowed to keep your hanguns in your home say for collecting purposes, unless you pay New York State a fee every 5 years.
Assault type rifles according to New York State Laws/definitions (which include Ruger 10/22's, M-1 Garands to name a few) will have to be registered and cannot be sold to anyone inside New York State, and cannot be left to family members after the registered owner's death. It must be turned over to the police in the owner's jurisdiction. Also, nobody can carry more than (1) one spare magazine with them at any time, which again can only carry 7 rounds. (This applies for handguns and long guns)
Ammunition will now require a background check just like those required to purchase firearms, along with the person/store etc, being regisitered by New York State to sell ammunition, and said seller must keep records of all said ammunition sales. **AMMO NOTE** Since no system was setup ahead of time to do ammo purchase checks, all ammo sales have been suspended until such system is setup. The Feds won't do it so now the state is going to have to set up a ammo check department first, and remember all ammunition sellers must get a special license to just sell ammo which I'm sure will take some time and fee $$$$$. There was such a rush to make this law and push it through, that nothing was planned ahead for.
This is just on our New York State level. Whether the federal government will pass similar laws we will know very shortly. Just though you should be aware what has happened here in New York State.

Model39:

You are welcome to sell your high capacity magazines in Utah.

Utah is the only State which allows conceal carry in all public schools and Universities.

We can even conceal in unsecured places of the State Capital.

When people have tasted second amendment freedoms like responsible gun owners in Utah currently enjoy no government will ultimately succeed at snuffing out those God given freedoms.

As you move west and south the second amendment takes on a religious fervor. (California is not considered the west but their own country)

Even Senator Reid who owns guns is not embracing Obama's hard gun line.

As I write, Utah legislators are drafting a bill similar to Wyoming which would fine any Federal Agent attempting to enforce any federal gun ban in our State.

Russ

P.S. All gun manufactures located in New York State. Utah has a well educated workforce, strong economy, low unemployment and #1 lowest healthcare costs in the nation. We would love to see the moving trucks heading to our State along with all those jobs.

Does anyone know how this impacts LEOs from other states or retirees carrying under LEOSA?

At the passage of this new debacle, the weapons used by most all law enforcement in the state is illegal by virtue of their magazine size...My Browning High Power, circa 1969 is illegal with it's factory 13 round magazines, but, I can keep those magazines, for a while, just cannot load them with more than 7 bullets.

The state senate had less than 14 hours to read, review what I have been told was somewhere between 32 and 70 pages of the proposal, had no time for discussion on the senate floor and, passed it to send on to the assembly...who had about the same amount of time to review prior to a vote.
The legislation was voted on and sent to the governor for signing around 6:30 pm. At approximately 7:04 pm I had just finished an order at Midway...pressed checkout and the order was rejected because they cannot sell ammo, or components in NY state as a result of this faulty new law.

In crazy cuomo's quest to beat obamination to the punch they left a lot of holes in this law. Almost every proposal has errors in it and the lawyers and gun rights activists are already gearing up for the challenges.

Now to clarify, New York is not a big state, but it's large enough outside of the City, however the City and the Money are the big problem. I live about 400 miles from the City. Mostly rural, I look at Canada every day when I go to town for coffee with the fella's. It's a mile or so north and most of that mile is a river. Around here we hunt fish grow gardens, enjoy the outdoors and freeze in the winter. Regardless I love it up here. I'm retired. I'm a Vietnam era vet, worked my whole life, retired after 20 some years as a substance abuse counselor. My wife works, she is opening up her own studio next month to teach piano to kids. Especially kids with special needs. We can't afford to move.

But, safe to say, there will be repercussions. Watch the news. Keep in mind brothers and sisters there are over 4 million legally owned guns in NY state.

I'm from upstate NY and even the rural areas of the state vote overwhelmingly for Democratic candidates. I find it unbelievable but just look at the Red and Blue maps for presidential elections in the last 20 years.

That's it! Pass laws that bind the law abiding and the only ones who'll break them will be the idiots who started all of this! YEA-that'll work!

There goes the second amendment in New York, which one
is next....

Hearing this causes sadness that such a thing could be done to law abiding citizens. My question is, I bear hunt in Maine so what kind of ordeal am I looking at driving through New Your to get there? I carry either a bolt action rifle or a lever action rifle and a six shot revolver. In view of this I would carry them in a locked tool box in the bed of my truck but would that bee enough, now?
Based on the track record in NY where the local "Police" and "Persecutors" have stopped legally, under Federal law, carried guns and confiscated them, I would never again try to pass through NY State with ANY FIREARM!
Geoff
Who will no longer deal knowingly with ANY NY company.

I sincerely hope all of these social thinking will be translated into political action, specially by our NY friends.
