It's Happened Here In New York 01/15/13

We must all ban together and fight this first unthinkable assault on our freedom. I sent money to NRA-ILA. The courts are our first and maybe our most important battlefield. We must fight these tyrants IN New York before it spreads across the US.
I will speak these words until my final breath; we are the righteous and we are many. We will not be defeated!

All I have to say is I may have been born in NY but thank God I don't live there anymore. As much as I love my hometown you couldn't pay me enough to go back. Andrew Cuomo for all his theatrics is an idiot! I would say more but lest I be edited I'll be mostly silent. I feel bad for the oppressed, captive citizens of my home state.

Holy ****, and I thought MA had it rough

NH isn't too far away, you all can join me fleeing north to a land of reason. Maybe we'll get special refugee treatment?

Do not sell your mags, send them to a good friend or relative is a safe state until government sanity and your 2A rights are restored.

And when do you think that will occur?

I'd bet the NRA will launch a lawsuit but by the time it makes it to the Supremes the Democrats will have the bench stacked. The last ruling by the Supremes passed by 1 vote and contained the the disclaimer that the "government could impose reasonable restrictions". Within the next 6 months some Supremes will retire and you can bet that NYS restrictions will be deemed reasonable by the court.

But hey, hope springs eternal - right?

The law apparently doesn't apply to revolvers because they don't have removable magazines. Yes we have 7, 8, and 10 shot cylinders on Smith revolvers. The 7s are on guns like the 386 and 686 .357s. The 8 I'm aware of is the 8 times 357 N frame (627). The 10 is the K22 or 617.

I wonder what the big collectors will do. Many of those won't tolerate their guns being deactivated, nor will they want them to escheat back to the state upon their death. For them, the only solution will be for them to move. They may retain their NY homestead, but they'll move their legal state of residence and their gun collections to happier hunting grounds. Guess there's no reason to worry much about them. Anyone with money can skirt the law across the border of a friendly state.

Please don't take offense to this. Where was the outrage when we suffered the same restrictions in California? When do we finally realize this is a nationwide attack on personal rights? Not just an "Us" vs....."the other State" situation. It hurts all of us when restrictions of any sort hits home. Hunters, target shooters, 2nd Amendment Proponents ALL!! Do not let them divide us. UNITE ALL!

I was just as outraged then. All these laws are illegal based on the 2nd amendment.

Yes, the laws in CA suck. Still, I'm not going to give the New York guys the tongue lashing I get whenever the subject comes up. I'll support them the best I can.

Don't worry, someone will be along shortly to blame CA for this stupidity.;)

New York like California is run and dictated by those that use the big cities like New York City, LA, and SF as their power and money base. The people out in the countryside are forced to put up with the dictates because they are scattered and unorganized. I'm not faulting anyone other than those that misuse their power to stay elected. I want to help the good people New York but how do we do that?

You gunowners and taxpayers need to gather your forces from around the state and fight back. Please, don't give in and walk away. Punish those that voted for the bill to outlaw your rights. Single them out and and target them for defeat in the next elections. Apparently the politicians that rammed this through are aware of the disorganized state of the opposition. Wish there was more we could do because this affects all of us. We are dealing with a highly organized and determined opposition and we should consider it necessary to our freedom to do the same and be better at it to defeat them. I believe they are going to use the "Pac man" style initiative and take each state they can one bite at a time.

I've never felt the need for a M 41. I hope they ban them outright.

The first 10 Amendments to our Constitution are "The Bill of Rights", not the "Bill of Needs". Does the 2nd Amendment say "for hunting and target shooting"?

The first Supreme Court case dealing with the Second Amendment upheld the NFA, because the defense (which somehow did not present) failed to prove that a short-barreled shotgun was a common military weapon.

Point well taken c. I guess everyone else was feeling warm and fuzzy that the Federal Government wasn't talking gun control.

Not so much anymore, but historically, where California has gone, the nation has followed.

No. It says "detachable" in the full text of the bill.
Please, people. Read the bill. It's all over the web for you to see. It's only 41 pages. These comments and freakouts about leverguns, revolvers, and pump shotguns are not helpful. READ THE BILL.
(Unlike the folks who voted for it)

OK, Listen up while I dispel some of the untruths about NY and add some of the truths, not necessarily in that order but you'll get my drift...
At the passage of this new debacle, the weapons used by most all law enforcement in the state is illegal by virtue of their magazine size...My Browning High Power, circa 1969 is illegal with it's factory 13 round magazines, but, I can keep those magazines, for a while, just cannot load them with more than 7 bullets.

The state senate had less than 14 hours to read, review what I have been told was somewhere between 32 and 70 pages of the proposal, had no time for discussion on the senate floor and, passed it to send on to the assembly...who had about the same amount of time to review prior to a vote.
The legislation was voted on and sent to the governor for signing around 6:30 pm. At approximately 7:04 pm I had just finished an order at Midway...pressed checkout and the order was rejected because they cannot sell ammo, or components in NY state as a result of this faulty new law.

In crazy cuomo's quest to beat obamination to the punch they left a lot of holes in this law. Almost every proposal has errors in it and the lawyers and gun rights activists are already gearing up for the challenges.

Now to clarify, New York is not a big state, but it's large enough outside of the City, however the City and the Money are the big problem. I live about 400 miles from the City. Mostly rural, I look at Canada every day when I go to town for coffee with the fella's. It's a mile or so north and most of that mile is a river. Around here we hunt fish grow gardens, enjoy the outdoors and freeze in the winter. Regardless I love it up here. I'm retired. I'm a Vietnam era vet, worked my whole life, retired after 20 some years as a substance abuse counselor. My wife works, she is opening up her own studio next month to teach piano to kids. Especially kids with special needs. We can't afford to move.

There are two New Yorks. There is the New York you all see on TV, and then there is the real New York. The people UPSTATE, as they call us, do not get the first bite of the apple. Now to clarify for all you libtards in westchester, orange, greene, suffolk counties and other parts down there, you are not UPSTATE...You are CITY...Unfortunately for us UPSTATE, the votes for the Dems are primarily in the City and surrounding counties so guess who wins. Hell, even most of the downstate repubs voted for this abortion.
But, safe to say, there will be repercussions. Watch the news. Keep in mind brothers and sisters there are over 4 million legally owned guns in NY state.
