It's Happened Here In New York 01/15/13

This is completely ridiculous! I feel for all NY residents that have to deal with this. What is next? It will be interesting to see how far the Gov gets in the next presidential election.

So how would this affect 8 shot revolver owners?

About as far as his father did, I hope.

Isn't this the state (it may have been the media) that released a list of gun owners or permit holders with names and addresses on it. I thought I heard something about a resulting burglury from this as well.

I know i really should keep up on things better.

Yeah, but don't worry, the burglar has to register the gun now.

Amen- it is amazing to hear him and Bloomberg speak on "guns" and actually realize how little they actually know about them or the reason for the 2nd Amendment in the first place.

If I hear one more time on how you don't need more than 10 shots to kill a deer I'm gonna...well do nothing because I am gonna hear it until the day I die probably

This has to be able to be challenged in the Supreme Court (State) I would imagine?

My gut feeling is that a LOT of NY State proper Reps and Senators are going to be losing their jobs over this.

Yep it sure is...and there are reports that some of those homes have been broken into already.

Freedom of the Press at it's best

As I read the law yesterday it will be illegal to sell any "clip" that holds more than 7 rounds. It will be legal to possess a "clip" that holds up to 10 rounds but you can only put 7 rounds in it, any more than that will be a misdemeanor. And any clip that holds more than 10 rounds will need to be sold and shipped out of state in one year's time.

So, my question is, who is going to manufacture 7 shot magazines specifically for sale in New York?

They have effectively outlawed the use of any weapon that requires a "clip" greater than 7 rounds because you will be breaking the law if buy or sell a magazine for one in the state of New York. You can't put a 10 round magazine in a 15 round semi-automatic pistol and the 15 round magazine that fits will be illegal to buy, sell, or possess.

And this does not "infringe"???

I, for one, hope the NRA uses some of the money I paid them to file lawsuits and fight this all the way to the Supreme Court. They just turned previously law abiding gun owners into criminals for exercising their constitutional rights.

Like seven round clips would have stopped that whacko from killing all those kids? He could have filled his pockets with preloaded 7 round magazines and done just as much damage by the time the police got there.

I don't think a lot of people have realized the implications of the 7 round clip/mag limitation yet. But they will when they have to get rid of, or destroy their weapons.

They have already had a ban on anything more then 10 rounds... its some lame law that they think will save lifes.. One question they have never answered.... When is they registration day for the criminals to come in and register their guns and clips? OH yeah.. criminals dont obey ANY LAWS!!! liberal idiots...

They should just make murder illegal. Oh wait...

I can see the healthcare shenanigans having an effect on gun ownership too. At least if you ever get on one of the government sponsored plans anyway. Gun owners would likely be put into some sort of high risk/payment plan.

No they don't. The Supreme Court has ruled that felons do not have to register as it violates their rights against self incrimination.

Kurac,
You are correct about the constructive possession piece.
As for .50 centerfire rifles, they will be outlawed next, like Cali did.

CA specifically banned the 50BMG cartridge only wildcats based on the BMG and other .50's are still legal, so far.

Additionally any (one) "assult" mod to a shotgun is also illegal.
Add a pistol grip......illegal
Bayonet mount.........illegal
folding stock ...illegal
Tactical light.......illeagal
flash suppressor...... you get the picture
I have lived in the Adirondacks all my life, never thought **** like this could get passed........

.

NY only allows 5 rds for deer hunting with a long gun, magazine or tube fed. But Il DUce knows that, he owns a Remington shotgun

not at all, only detachable mags combined with 1 evil feature  maybe a Charter arms may qualify :D

I am sure 7 rounds was chosen just to make life even more difficult. What full sized pistol holds only 7 rounds in the mag? Even 1911 mags are generally 8 rounds now. Just another way to ensnare law abiding gun owners.

Its a sad day when a Commiefornian can say, "We have it better than them."

For now anyway...:(

I keep hearing people ask, "Why does anyone need a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds?" It's not about target shooting, or hunting or protecting yourself from a burglar. It's because the government has them!

New York has had restrictive gun laws for many decades pre-1968 even. I see a similarity between NY and Illinois where a large urban electorate determines the politics for the remaining rural parts of each state. I feel for the people that grew up with hunting, fishing, .22's and BB guns as kids. They are outvoted by those to whom that life is both foreign and repugnant. Sad, so sad. NY has so much beauty and resources but l don't think this toothpaste is going back in the tube.

Last time I checked, lots and lots of lever action rifles (like Grand daddy used) held more than 10 rounds...i guess those are also "assault rifles", too.

And I'm pretty sure there are some 8-shot revolvers (many in .22)...so I guess those are banned also. But I know everyone will sleep much better at night, secure in the knowledge that finally, the violent crime rate in New York will be Zero. Whew...what took them so long?

I have one word for the people living (and voting for these idiots in office) in New York:

Move. Or you get what you voted for.

On the other hand, while I can't enjoy a Coke in a size greater than 20 ounces, or smoke a cigar within city limits (even outside in many places) I am comforted in knowing that I can't be shot more than 7 times be anyone, or else they would be breaking the law!

The legal process is too confusing and convoluted and lengthy for me. I am a bit more pragmatic, my fellow members. I say let them know with our wallets. We are a large consumer force spending much money on accessories, vacations, services and more. I am stopping any spending on New York state companies and I am going to tell them why. I do not support your state politics because of its potential impact of my current and constitutional rights. Tell your legislatures you are losing business and money and jobs because of this legislation. If you live in an adjacent state to New York, offer programs and discounts - hunting, fishing, vacations, shopping and more - to lure New York residents & dollars away to your state. Tell your legislatures to offer benefits to businesses that leave New York and move to your state. We need to speak with our wallets. Make them follow the money because it is the largest motivator for a political movement. New York residents - those that support the law and those that don't - will feel the impact. There is more to consider and do than just carping.

We all need to stay safe out there. This is a first step.
