It's Happened Here In New York 01/15/13

I'm glad I live in Washington State...We still have a US Constitution, with the Bill of RIGHTS here.

If I lived in New York, I would do my best to help repeal that stupid set of New York gun-laws, or move to a better state.

Does not New York have a version of the second amendment in their constitution????? If so, this may very well run afoul of it.

New York will be a great environment in which to practice firearms law for the next few years.

I have to believe that there are numerous challenges that can be mounted to the new laws based on ambiguity, vagueness, lack of definition, and similar faults that are frequently found in hasty legislation.

I had always hoped that California would cease to have among the dumbest firearms laws in the nation because its legislature would come to its senses and rewrite an inconsistent heap of bad laws into something didn't punish honest firearms owners for the actions and perceived threats of knuckleheads. Instead, without our legislature doing a single thing, it has been relieved of its dead-last status by getting leap-frogged in the race to the bottom by a state legislature with even more demanding standards of silliness and fecklessness than have been achieved here.

This is a sad day for anyone who values thoughtful policy making. One can only hope for a long series of court cases that reverse most of the legislation point by point. The New York legislature and the Governor deserve every ounce of the public humiliation I predict they will receive from the courts over the next several months or years of legal tests.

The 7 round limit will be a nightmare to administer and enforce, especially if we end up with a 10 round federal limit.

Do not sell your mags, send them to a good friend or relative is a safe state until government sanity and your 2A rights are restored.

Their whole platform to disregard the Constitution of the United States is based on Sandyhook. Their imposed tyrannical laws, fast tracked past the general population, will have absolutely zero effect the next time a sociopath decides to kill again. But then, we all know that is not what this is all about anyway.

I am sorry that this has happened to the law abiding citizens of NY. Best of luck to get this madness overturned.

nuts,it's all totally nuts.i feel sorry for the gun owners in new york.I've been wanting to visit there, but i think i'll keep my money here in fla.

The 7 round magazine limit will indeed be difficult to enforce. I am sure our LEO's are just thrilled to hear this and can't wait to start tracking us down. Will they be visiting our local ranges and rural areas where people shoot to check our 10 round magazines to make sure we are not over the limit? Give me a break! I am sure they are just as disgusted over this as we are. I can't even begin to think how this will affect us who shoot IDPA and other competitions. We have so many laws in this state that are not enforced it is unbelievable. It is against the law to talk/text on a cell phone here and it doesn't seem to stop anyone and I know of no one who was EVER ticketed for it. I find this more dangerous than too many rounds in a magazine. This is what you get when you have an overzealous Governor with Presidential aspirations. Don't be mislead that this was a liberal/democrat thing, this madness was approved by a large number of conservative/republicans also. Everyone should be concerned because this could happen anywhere, just wait until the next horrific shooting takes place and see how your elected officials respond.

My NYS PL has had a five year renewal since I received it many years ago-nothing new there for me.It varies depending on what part of the state you're in.I would suspect that being slammed with a hefty renewal, like my adjacent county has been doing for years, might be the case with my county in the future.I have a problem with that.Currently the fee is very reasonable, not punitive or essentially a gun tax.
If I understand the new law correctly,I'm fine with owning my existing 10 shot Model 41 magazines....or might need a 3 round plug? How about my eight round Model 27?
I've never felt the need for an assault type rifle or high cap mag.[/QUOTE]

Whether or not you felt the need, you still have the right. The Constitution supercedes any and all other laws of the land.

In NY, when you die, according to the new law, your registered guns go bye-bye. No sons, daughters, or grandkids will be inheriting anything from papa.

Folks, this is one step away from Stalin and Hitler. Many overly-comfy conservatives sat back and watched it happen thinking it would never happen here. Well, knock-knock.

Resist now.

I feel sick about this.
Ten was perceived to be asinine but 7?
What about those of us that shoot DCM/High Power matches?
Will they have to create a NY reload rule? So much for new shooters?!

It looks like "For the People by The People" has become a "we know best" government.

I feel blessed to be here in CA. Just wait untill someone realizes he can kill someone by hitting them with a car.

Texas, damn right we love our guns in the South.

We still have great gun support from our State in Louisiana, but i do wish we had some laws that Texas has. One law i wish we had was, conceal carry holders do not have to abide by the "no firearms" signs put up by private business owners. Here in Louisiana, u must abide by those signs or "if" the weapon is mistakenly seen or identified, u can have criminal trespassing charges filed against u by the business owner.

Here in Texas, people carrying concealed cannot carry enter property posted with a sign saying they may not enter. The law gives the precise wording of the sign and it must be in English and Spanish. If you are caught with a concealed weapon in such a place, and are asked to leave, you must go. If you don't go, it's trespassing and you can be arrested. If you're not asked to leave, I presume you can stay, even though carrying.

Just remember, in Texas, you can never carry in a school or a church. In California you can carry in both places if you have a CCW.

I feel for you my NY brethren and fear what may cometh our way!

Come to Florida.

We are gun friendly. We just issued our 1,000,000 CCW license.

Why do you think we call it the "GUNSHINE" State?
