Hello,New member here.


Just purchased a very mature 38 revolver.Looks like a pre-model-10.The serial number on barrel,cylinder and bottom of grip is C 206XXX.Also when the cylinder is opened and look where the model number normaly be is the number 1 at the top,under this are the numbers 62718 and under this is the mumber 2.On the backstrap is PA 681.Anyone have any idea of a possible yeat of mfg?Sorry no pics,my computer can't handle digital.

Welcome to the Smith-Wesson forum. What you have is a S&W .38 Military & Police (Postwar) "Pre-Model 10". Probably dates to about 1951. The numbers inside the crane area are the assembly number (used to keep major components together in the older days) and some worker numbers most likely. The number on the backstap "may" be a local control/tracking number used by an agency such as a PD. Sounds like a nice gun.
