I stumbled upon this FX TV series on Amazon Prime and thought I'd give it a try. I was not familiar with it, other than seeing a few shoot-out snippets on utube. It's a modern day crime drama centered in Harlan county of eastern Kentucky. Base onElmore Leonard's stories about the character of Deputy Marshal Raylan Givens, a 21th century "cowboy". All things considered, it's not bad, in fact it's pretty good. The story line, character development, acting, and writing are all well done. Even the gun-handling is pretty accurate though I must admit I'm unfamiliar with Glocks (don't own one, have not shot nor even handled one). I've watched the first two seasons and have just started season three. There are six seasons, then a final special season - Justified, City Primeval. If you haven't seen it before, you might want to give it a try, you all might just like it.

I think I have watched the series twice all the way through. The first episode gets you hooked. Having a good looking ex wife and a sluty dirty blonde only helps the show. Some of the episodes get boring but you will be able to skip to the next one, enjoy

As an interesting aside. In the original test episodes, Boyd Crowder was killed off in the first episode. But test viewers liked him so much they clamored for a different script. The revised script has Boyd surviving his encounter with Raylon.

I've seen Walter Groggins (I think that Boyd's name) in some other work. "The World's Fastest Indian." "The Apostle" with Robert Duval."

He's a good actor. I can see why they wanted him a permanent part of the show.

Great original series, but the reboot wasn't up to par. Raylan goes from bedding gorgeous ladies of Kentucky to lowering his standards to a 50 year old fat black lady from Detroit.

Dewey Crow is an absolute favorite from the original.

Dewey and Boyd were extreme opposite ends of the criminal intelligence spectrum.

As others have said, the original series was enjoyable and I identified with it, as I am from that part of the country. I watched every episode. The recent Justified revival didn't work for me. I stopped watching after two episodes.

Justified is excellent. Made me look for everything Walton Goggins is in. Timothy Olyphant even "reprised" his role as a cowboy Marshall with a role in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

Based on some Elmore Leonard books. The series has some wonderfully developed villain characters.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of Justified for me was that it stayed with Elmore Leonard's reputation for, and excellent execution of, colorful dialogue in his written works. Being executive producer no doubt allowed him to maintain that aspect. Which certainly shows -- the dialogue in Justified is thoroughly crackling!

"I did no such thing, Raylan. I may be a man of the cloth but I ain't no lamb. I asked him to shut down his poison factory and merely made an observation about its combustibility."

I agree completely. My wife and I watched the original series a couple of times, but the reboot wasn't a grabber. We watched several episodes before we lost interest.

My biggest pet peeve about cop shows. The 2 lead detectives go to the bad guy's place. They shoot 35 henchmen. The bad guy takes off. Do the detectives fill out reports? No. Do they get put on administrative leave? No. Do they even take a smoke break? No. They jump in the fastest car they can find and race to catch the bad guy. Then, after they kill him, and another half dozen or so henchmen, they just jump in the fast car and head on down to the Florida Keys for a 2-week beach vacation.

I too think the original Justified is about the best TV I've seen in a LONG time. We've watched it a couple of times now. My wife is madly in love with both Raylan and Boyd. We tried to watch the reboot, but it was just another TV show.

As an aside. I once sold a gun to a fellow up in Waynesboro, Va. We met up at the agreed upon place, and he got out of the car, and put on his hat. He was the spitting image of Marshall Givens. I got out and laughed and said "Rayland Givens." He shook his head and said "I've heard that before."

It was/is my all time favorite cop or drama series. I bought all 7 seasons (Yikes $$$$ .......Thank you stag grips and Forum members ). I have watched it so many times now I think I've got my cost per episode down to about a nickel each. The recent reboot was a HUGE DISAPOINTMENT and I stopped watching after the third episode.

If you really like the original, the sequel is a HARD pass !!

Best show I've seen on tv in my 54 years. Liked Givens' Stetson Carson so much, I found a nice one on ebay and had it cut and reshaped with the correct band like it looked in the pilot episode. Olyphant and Goggins were great in their roles, with back and forth banter that just cracked me up. For that matter, every single actor and actress fit their roles to a T for me. I, too, thought the reboot was pretty terrible; not a lot of Elmore Leonard writing influence at all, and the Detroit setting just seemed out of place for Raylan. However, watch the last fifteen or twenty minutes of the last episode of the reboot, and it sort of made sitting thru the rest of it worthwhile, and it also leaves you hanging with what could happen next if they will just revive this show PROPERLY.

Goggins is a featured character in the new Fallout. There is also the recent additional season of Justified that just dropped a few months ago and is not included with the first series.
