Las Vegas Hotels now charging "Resort Fee" !?

I just checked some Las Vegas hotels for a quick summer vacation just to find out, they invented a +20$ (+ taxes) per day/room "Resort Fee" - now isn´t this a rip off ..
I never thought of Vegas as a resort place anyways - but maybe I´m wrong on this ...
What do you think of this ...?

Hmmm, haven't heard that. I guess I'll see if they pull that in November when I'm there for SEMA.

When we first moved to the Poconos, we went to the closest beer barn to pick up a 24-pack of Busch Light. The clerk said the price was $18. Charlie said, "$18!! It's $12 down in town!" He replied, "Well, this is a resort area, you know." Charlie said incredulously, "Resort area??" I said, "Yeah, as in "resortin' to extortion."

Vegas: What did you expect?

When I went to Vegas last year...I was substancially LESS than impressed with it. The only thing that made it fun was a reunion with old buddies.

The place, IMHO, could not suck more than if it was a giant vaccuum cleaner with an insaitiable appeitite. Way overpriced and WAY over rated.

No plans to go back. Have better ways of spending my hard earned $.

Been to Vegas three times in about 8 years. No more. Seen and done it all and I'm weary of the "gimme your money, I can't be bothered with being nice or efficient" atttitude.
I hear that Reno is much better than Vegas.
I haven't been there, but co-workers started going to Reno years ago.
No more Vegas for me, unless work sends me there for a convention.

Well, seems like all the Hotels on the Strip charge the resort fee, even "Hooters Hotel & Casino" - For some el cheapo places it seems the resort fee is higher than their room rates ...
I think they are out of their mind ...

We drove through vegas yesterday and I didnt even stop! (might on the way back). On the way through mesquite and primm things looked a lot slower than usual. I belive they are hurting. That extra fee you are talking about is more than I ever pay for a room around vegas, IF I ever pay!

I guess the resort fee they charge is their version of a cover charge in some bars. When I got married the first time I was really pissed at the florist because they upped the charge for flowers just because our date for the wedding was close to Mothers Day. Same thing as local hotels here raising their rates around Memorial Day--the Indy 500 race.

My wife and I were married there 4 years ago. It was the 2nd time around for each of us,my family mostly in Penna. hers here in In. She had never been there and suggested it so we went. They had the resort fee then and probably varies by where you stay.

We go back out each year for our anniversary. It is a trip we look forward to every March. We each are lucky enough to receive a bonus from our jobs. We consider this our "free" money to do with what we want,so we use it for the trip each year.
Last year our total bill for 4 nights stay and all we charged to the room was $10.00,they comped the rest. This year we had a casino host to deal with so our 3 nights stay in a suite and all we charged to the room was totally comped.

We noticed the crowds were down some this year from last and new construction has all but stopped.

As far as Vegas being a resort to each his own, we consider it a vacation spot for a few days.

I WAS a gambler, lived in california for close to 40 years. Would work my butt off for maybe six weeks without a day off, then invarably go to state line, laughlin, vegas or reno/carson city for usualy 3 days. I seldom paid for a room. Always compted. Southern nevada casinos were far better with the freebys. Now in recent years they mostly have went to a point system on plastic casino cards that you give the dealers or put in the machines. Usualy just getting a card at every casino you walk in will get you free night offers in the mail later. When I was a active gambler, I bet had I wanted to, I could have about lived in their rooms sunday through thursday useing various comeon,s. Weekends not usualy. People that dont know the ropes will pay in the nose. To start with, I would never stay in vegas proper. Go to outlieing areas like mesquite, primm etc. Even if you dont have the card in winter months you can stay for $16 to $29 a night on the average. The odds gambling are the same whether its whiskey peats or the bilagio in vegas. I get a charge out of people thinking they have to go to vegas from back east and maybe paying $150 for a room! Go to state line, get your room and drive to vegas for the action and sights! I now live a hour and half from mesquite nevada and dont use the freebies except to eat. (retired and pretty much quit my wild ways). As I am typeing this I am back in california visiting a daughter. My wife is proud of me as we drove through nevada and I didnt drop a dime on gambeling, even though we stopped at the prim mall to exercise our legs. I cant afford to lose anymore! (retired) May try $40 bucks or so on the way home though!
