Leapers Red Dot any good??

I've never used a red dot sight but I am interested in one for my 15-22. Looking to stay under $60. Any advice is welcome.

Any one familiar with the red dot below? What other parts would I need to make it work on the 15-22?

I would personally stay away from that. I'm not a Leepers / UTG fan at all. I haven't that that optic but I've had other UTG products that have been junk. Some of the UTG PRO stuff is better quality though. In the $60 range, I'd go with Primary Arms. You'll spend a few dollars more but it's worth it. I have 3 of those and two of them are on my 5.56 ARs. Great reputation, service and quality in an entry level priced optic.

on my 15-22. I have been liking it a lot! Perhaps not the best, but I'm hitting clay pigeons (3") and 2" plastic balls at 100 yards with it on a bipod...

It's 4 MOA, so hitting a 3" clay means you're doing something right...

It should serve you well on your .22...NcStar are also decent for the money....

Can you recommend a good riser mount for that one? Not sure I like the cantilever one they offer.

I have that Primary Arms red dot, and you the choice of a standard non-cantilever mount. I have the non-cantilever one. It's a good sight. I also have Leapers 3X9 scope. They make great scopes. The problem is their quality control. Sometimes people get bad ones.

I picked up the 15-22 in February, and selected this red-dot shortly thereafter (I used to be an iron sights only person). I've been to the range a dozen times since then, and shot 2500+ rounds through the 15-22. Since this was my first red-dot, I can't really compare.. But, then again, for <$50, it has held up for me. The only thing I *think* I wish this had was alternate reticles (like a cross-hair or circle+dot).

Bottom line, I've had it for 2 months, same battery, and it's still holding zero. Was shooting paint balls glued to golf tees at 50 yards with it.. Even the wife hits clays at 100 yds.

I keep telling my dad (who taught me with a bolt-action iron sights) that the red-dot feels like cheating... You only have to line up two items (dot+target), not three (rear, front, target). Since the red-dot has infinite parallax, you don't have to worry about your head position - what ever you see the red dot on, that's what you're going to hit... It also turned me into a two-eye shooter... Damn is that cool to have the sight just disappear altogether...

I did shoot an AR with an EOTech.. The circle+dot was nice, but it didn't significantly improve my shots. Given the cost differential....

I have no doubt that the Primary Arms and Bushnell TRS-25 are excellent red-dots that don't cost much more than this. Longer battery life, smaller MOA (I think both are 3 MOA). The PA and Bushnell have excellent reviews, to be sure, and I'm sure would handle fine. For me, though, other than the multi-reticle, I can't complain about the UTG at all. I'm not hunting with it either, but I've used it in bright sunlight and low light...

I've had this model on my 9mm HiPoint carbine for almost a year . . . .

It has held zero and I am able to make 2"-3" groups at 50 yards all day long. It has a 4MOA dot with a 60MOA circle around it. I find that the circle dot sight helps me get onto the target a lot faster than the dot alone.

35 Shots @ 50 yards - Six of the shots in the lower left quadrant were sight-in shots.

Personally i have the UTG red/green and i like it. I got it for $30 bucks at my lgs. It zeroes in perfect and at 50/100yds i have the UTG 3X magnifier. No need to spend the same amount on a red dot for the same amount that the rifle cost.

I have one mounted on my 5.56 and it has held up so far in about 500 rounds. It has held zero even after having removed it and put it back on. Would I get another one, sure. However, for my new 15-22 I will be getting either the Bushnell TRS25 or a scope.

Yes, I really like it. It is very accurate and eats anything I feed it. It's not a substitute for an AR, but it is sufficient for under 100 yards. I can't afford to feed an AR, so this is what I have for now. I have my firearms set up so that I only have to stock 9mm, .22Mag, and .22LR.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Leapers/UTG red dots for the money. I have their Bug Buster 3x9 AO scope on my 15-22 and am really impressed with the quality.

I've been running that exact optic on my 15-22 for about 5 months now (the wife bought it for me for Christmas). I'd say I've put about 1K rounds though my 15-22 since then and the sight has performed perfectly. You should be just fine with that one.

Choosing UTG red dot

I have never used a red dot, so I am undecided on one for my 15-22. These two UTG models interest me: the DS3039 and the DS3068. I like the looks of the longer model 3068 better, but I wonder if the shorter one would be more practical.

I bought the Leepers from Dezfan (here in the forum) and we zeroed it into and it was shooting very well. My wife was doing pretty good standing at about 50yards (and not tucking in her elbows) It was pretty accurate @ 100yrds even with the winds.

I was looking for optics too, so I was wondering how well this one you ordered is holding up?

I have the Leapers Golden Image 30mm Red/Green Dot Sight (SCP-RD40RGW) and love it. I haven't had a bit of problem with it.

Once dialed in my groupings are within 1" diameter at 25 yards, which is probably influenced more by me than the sight or ammo (meaning with more controlled breathing I'd likely be able to improve on the groupings).

I have the sight mounted on a UTG Low Profile Riser rail so I can also use the stock sights for co-witnessing if desired as both the front and rear stock sights align perfectly with the dot. In fact, I often leave the rear sight up to align the dot to the target which seems to help my groups probably because it helps me with a standardized, repeatable shooting posture.
