Lil Gun , Not in my guns

I have been reloading for pistols for many years but recently started reloading for a 300 blackout bolt action. I am using 14.5 gr lil'gun and h-110 (not together ) under a155 gr bullet running about 1850 fps. With both, the brass is not even warm when I eject it from the gun. very unusual to me. Most brass will burn the piss out of you when it is ejected. ???

I love Lil'gun in my 357 carbine. Book maximum to a bit over max loads and 158 grain JSP bullet give me screaming velocity, great accuracy, and less pressure in my Rossi 92. My 92 will give a case bulge with 296 loads, but not with higher velocity Lil'gun loads.

It is very hot, but that is a price you pay for the performance.

I bought a few pounds of it for my Browning low wall in 22 Hornet. As the others, I now use nothing else

I bought a bunch to use in 30 Carbine but someone suggested I would be happier with H110/W296 which I already use for other rounds anyway.

It's my preferred powder for 12.7 x 42's, mostly because it has the most load data for that round.
The idea of 50 BEO appeals to me so maybe I will save it. I still have an AeroXL upper I bought for a 458 SOCOM project that didn't pan out.

Okay, I love the group here but when I see a 3-shot group that small, AFTER being impressed, I want to ask where the 5 and 10-shot group is.

If you shot a 3 shot group of that size with a small, lite, single shot with a two piece stock and stock trigger would you not stop and save it? 😁😎
No, it won't shoot a 10 shot group that small. But it is a consistent accurate rifle with that load. Not many factory rifles will shoot quarter inch groups. Do you have one?

:D I would save it, had I ran out of ammo. But I'd send two more rounds at it if I had ammo.

I own only one centerfire rifle that I would even try to shoot a quart-inch group with, but I likely couldn't pull it off. Last time out with a new optic and I drilled a golf ball at 300 and a 20oz water bottle at 500, but I'll say that I missed the water bottle with the first shot and smoked it with the second.

95% or more of what I do is with handguns.

I once shot a fantastic 5-shot group at 25 yards, two hand standing with one of my Model 52-2 pistols. It was a 5-shot group because that's the capacity of the magazine. I turned that phenomenal group in to a 10-shot group that measured 2.175 inches, and that target hags above my load bench.

I did not do it in a match, sigh, and I don't compete, but I am in awe of what competition Bullseye shooters do regularly.

I should have been more clear in my post to avoid even the potential of a suspected insult, my apologies. What I should have said and meant to say is that if I made a 3-shot group that looked like you phenomenal 3-shot group, I would certainly have tried for a 5-shot group.

I liken it to chronograph work. Some handloaders wish to put stock in a low ES and a low SD and some of these folks will shoot a 5 or 10-shot string to return these numbers.

If I shot a 5 or 10 shot string that returned lousy ES and SD, I would make a note of it and move on to the next chore.

If I shot a 5 or 10 shot string that returned awe-inspiringly low ES and SD, I would shoot a lot more of the same load and see if it returns similar results over a larger string. I would think that would be the best use of the data.

No worries.
I just reread my post and thought I sounded a bit snarky. 😳
You are obviously a better shot than me. I have shot prairie dogs at just under 300 yards with this Hornet, but I miss them a lot too. For longer shots I have a .220 Swift and I can miss with that also. 😁
My Hornet with Lil'Gun is a very accurate light rifle and with little wind will stay under an inch for 5, I have never tried 10 shots on paper. It is hard to shoot because of it's thin forend and 4# trigger.
Lil'Gun transformed this rifle, with other powders it was not this accurate and more erratic.
Lil'Gun is a good powder, just many not for everything. Just to get back on topic. 😎

Obviously a better shot bwahahaha there is no evidence of that! I dabble in rifles except that once each year I do a trip to hunt prairie dogs. Three full, long days of action if the weather cooperates. I can make that rig sing but I give a lot of credit to the 50 grain V-Max pills that seem to always come through. Whacking a few as close as 75 yards, most are 150-250 and a smattering of 400+ yard success stories.

More challenging and just as fun is getting them with a handgun. Those are 20 to 30 yards and it takes even more luck than skill to get one.

Yep! An Odd Ball Savage '06 with a 20" Bull barrel and Muzzle brake ; Factory trim. Will shoot 125gr Sierra's into 1/4 in. with 50 gr IMR4064. Way off topic of Lil'Gun; but had to interject that.

I think you will like using H110 in the 30 Carbine considering H110 was developed specifically for use in the 30 Carbine lol.

Bought a lb after seeing it used for high velocity 32 mag loads. Very accurate, performed as advertised and got noticable throat erosion after 12 rounds.

It did give the best accuracy and velocity in a 357 mag carbine with the apparently discontinued Speer 170 gr gdsp and Rem 180 gr sjhp.

22 Hornet gets it's best velocities and in my rifle the best accuracy. 44 41 mags the best vels at lower pressure with heavy bullets. Used it for my bear loads in my M-57. but lowered the velocity as I didn't need to shoot through 2 bears with one round. Use 4227 now. And I used it(LG) in the 410 skeet loads as I could get an honest 1/2 ounce of shot in 410 AAs. Never had an problem with it... I never shot fast with any revolvers so no real worries on overheating/erosion or other dreaded problems. In fact loading L'il Gun to its recommendations(heavier bullets/faster velocities) is usually not when you blast through a cylinder full. It's good powder for certain niches...but it isn't like many other middle speed powders
