What FBI +P load Federal(38G) or Winchester(X38SPD) is better? It would be shot from a 3" or 4" barrel? Thanks!!!

I carried the Winchester as a police duty load. I never had to use it on a human, but it worked very effectively on dogs.

As brother members above said.
Your talking about a gun with the barrel length it was designed for.

+1 on the Remington FBI load. I have had good experiences with it in my 4" K-Frames and smaller J-Frames.

Some prefer Remington for snubs, as it expands a little more readily, due to the softer lead.

I have found Federal to shoot best in my guns, but between it and Winchester, would probably shoot both and see which is more accurate in a particular gun.

Realistically, you have to buy any of the three that you can find, and Federal now makes it only for LE orders.

Good luck finding any.:( I reload for 38 and 357 but do not carry my own reloads. I have plenty of hard cast 158 lswc but nothing soft. For my snub and most other guns in 9 and 40 I use Speer Gold Dots or Rem Golden Sabers. Just a alternative.

If you can not find the lead, the Speer bullets have been showing up on line lately.

EDIT: Here ya go, I found some Federal. I have ordered from here and they are great to deal with. ( I have no relation with the company) Finders fee always accepted:D

Thanks to all that have responded!! I saw that ammunitiontogo.com had the Federal lswchp at a very good price, but I found the Winchester equivalent for about $3.00 a box less than the Federal. I just wondered if the Federal was worth the extra cost compared to the Winchester. Thanks!!!

All things considered, I doubt it makes a whole lot of difference. Shot is Shot. Is the Win Super X 158 SWC HP?

Yes it is the Winchester super x swc hp (x38spd). I think I'll stick with it. I was able to get 500rds for $170.00 shipped. For that price I can practice with it and use it for a defense round. Thanks!!!

I think either would work well from a 4" barrel. If you were using a 2" barrel I would suggest using the FBI Load offered by Remington. (Part #R38S12) The lead used by Remington will expand reliably from a 2" barrel. (that's why I use them LOL)
