M 625- 45ACP roll call

I have 3", 4" and 5" pre-lock 625, and a pre lock 25 in 45 ACP.
I always liked these, but didn't shoot them much as I was more focused on USPSA and IDPA shooting.
Recently I acquired some property where I can shoot - but don't care much for shagging brass in tall grass - so I'm in a new love affair with my moon clip revolvers!

I purchased this 4” 625-3 years ago, not even realizing that the barrel length is somewhat rare. Fiber optic front sight and thumb latch are SDM, and I did a fair amount of polishing inside because I bought it to shoot. It’s still one of my favorite target revolvers despite being knocked out of the top spot recently by a 25-10:

I got caught up in auction fever and paid more for mine (secondhand) than I have for Pythons. I "use" it for informal steel challenge shooting...

The accuracy is certainly adequate for that but, in rigorous bench shooting for load development, I found it's generally not as accurate as it's .44mag stablemate...

And comparing it to another 45ACP revolver I found it can't hold a candle to my 5" Ruger Blackhawk. Still, it's a keeper, while the 3" .44 has moved on.

of my several N-Frames, this is the one I like the most for target shooting. 625-3 5". Use mostly moderate handloads with plated 200 grs SWC. Scary accurate and most comfortable to shoot.

I'm sure I saw this thread when it was originally posted, but I just spent another 10 minutes admiring lots of beautiful revolvers. Mine are a 5" model of 1988, 3" model of 1989, and 4" 325 Thunder Ranch. All polished actions, FO front sights, Hogue Mono grips, and all are shot regularly.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the post that S&W did not consider 625s as big sellers. I can't recall a single negative post about 625s other than some disliking the multicolored grips. Most say it is their most accurate handgun.

I have a Model of 1989 5” 625. Beautiful revolver. Haven’t shot it in a while. I keep it because it was my Dad’s. He loved three pistols, the 625, Gold Cup, and a Supermatic Trophy.

Since this thread was resurrected, and I didn't include my .45 Colt 625 in my post (#44) when this thread was current, I figured I'd post it now...

Who needs a Power Port on a .45 Colt? But it does add to the "cool factor".

I have a S&W Model 625-3 in .45 ACP (Model 0f 1989). I just use it for target shooting at the range. Have had the trigger lightened a bit and it works well. Still undecided on which grips I like best.

Recently I had to sell all my guns. The one I miss most is my 5 inch 625 Model 1989. It was the fasted gun I ever had to reload and the action was very slick, being done by Randy Lee of Apex Tactical. DA was 4 pounds. Never measured Single Action.

Had Charlie Prest make a compensator for it and scope mount. Used it for ICORE matches.

230 RNL with 3.5 grains of Bullseye. Bullets are slow but very accurate. The speed load faster than any wadcutter.

I've had a 625 model of 1988 5" for about 23 years I mainly use it for target shooting but I did carry it for a time while working at a indoor shooting range. I like it just fine. I'd like a 4" and a 3" but I have not come across them often or at prices I'm willing to pay.

I did acquire a 625 45 Colt Mountain Gun and a 625-5 classic 45 Colt though.

Not wanting to spend the big bucks for a .45ACP I sent the cylinder on my Model 25 to TK Customs to be machined so that it would accept w/moonclips the .45 ACP. They did a superlative job at a decent price and it shoots perfectly.

I used to use my -2 at pin matches.

More than once a younger shooter commented that I only had SIX shots (generally they were using a wonder nine) and I looked down range and said "Five pins, six rounds, I have one more than I need" and this invariably made them nervous enough to dump a mag full trying to clear dead wood off the table

My wife likes our 3" -3 the best of all our guns.

I have a 3 in like yours I have shot "Snub" classes LOL
A TR for "FUN" ,An M-22 just cause , An m-25 3inch slim barrel nickle
I can't shoot as is not replaceable
AND JUST GOT A GOVERNOR....
Don't know if I like them lol....

I have a 4 inch dash 3 that i bought here on the forum a few years back, i’m ashamed to say i have not fired it .
i need a factory front sight replacement if anyone has one or can steer me in the rite direction Thanks all
