Ergo Flat Panel Rail Covers (Clear Flat Lacquer Re-painted) - Poor Factory Finish
Since my previous upsate I added the Castle Nut, MFT One Point Sling (I showed how that's done in another post), and the Ergo Flat Panel Rail Covers. The Ergo Rail Covers are very heavy Duty Polymer, but they looked like cheap plastic from the factory. I got them here:
ERGO FLAT PANEL RAIL COVERS (2 PIECE SET)
It was the only place I was able to locate them without graphics. None the less, they looked like cheap plastic when I got them. So I wet sanded them smooth with 800 grit wet or dry sandpaper and sprayed them with multiple coats of Testors Clear Flat Lacquer.
Interestingly, the finish not only now looks fantastic but also EXACTLY matches the factory finish on the rifle. This lead me to believe that the rifle is clear flat lacquered at the factory to level the finish of the Polymer. Upon further inspection of the rifle, you can see that it is sprayed - and not a very good job at that. Down the road once it gets a few dings, I'll probably sand it out and re-spray it the same way.
