I replaced the sear of my M41 with a new one, mistakenly thought it was "drop in", but it is not. Could someone help me with information about the angles of the contact surfaces? I ask for your help because I am gathering all the information possible to take it to a professional gunsmith, only that around here there are very few authorized gunsmiths, and even less those who repair shooting pistols, in this case for silhouette shooting. Any data I can bring will be of great help. Thank you.

Note: Let me clarify, that in Mexico guns are very controlled and restricted for athletes, and for the citizenry in general, but it is legal to have guns (380 and 38 spl max in handguns).

You don't comment on the circumstances surrounding the need for a new sear. Normally, if the hammer is intact, the new sear would only need polishing of the sear to hammer surface at the very most, as the correct angle has already been established and ground. You would need a sear fixture to compliment the existing factory angle with polishing though, as this angle will likely be ruined during the process without one. Usually, polishing is not needed at all, particularly if the hammer has not been altered.

If you do not have access to a trained gunsmith, and you are unable to send the gun to Clark Custom for a rehab, perhaps changing/replacing the hammer and sear together would be the answer? The new OEM hammer and sear would already be at the correct angles, and would likely not need any intervention, except the knowledge to install them.

I broke the original sear while polishing it. I applied a lot of pressure. I think the hammer was modified by a qualified gunsmith, but those aren't around here anymore. It's a '59 M41 by serial number, but it was never a safe queen. Practically, we have to sort things out ourselves. Thank you very much.
