M60 all cleaned up

This is my first attempt at cleaning a stainless revolver. I used mothers mag, but after getting a few tips and pointers from ogilyspecial, I'm going to go back and try those.
Also, i date this M60 between 81 and 82, s#R292xxx. Note the front site insert. Not original, I don't think........anyone else have a M60 with a site insert?

Looks good. It takes some patience but they sure do take a shine. It will be easier to keep clean now.

When I saw your post said M60 all cleaned up, I flashed back to my military days and thought I was going to see a nice old machine gun. I completely forgot that I was on the S&W Forum and about the S&W model 60. Old minds sometimes get overly-excited

I bought two brand new M60's around that time, although it's long enough ago to not know exactly the year. Could be anywhere from '78 to may '82. I might even be wrong about that because memory gets really fuzzy after 30+ years. I only remember "for sure" that I bought them brand new from a dealer, and I bought them at the same time.
One was for my wife and one was for myself. My wife's is s#R318***, and mine must be very close to that being bought in the same order, but it's in a box at the back of the safe pretty much burried (never been fired).
My wifes' does not have the insert and I'll guess that mine doesn't either.
Hers has been a great purse gun for her for all these decades even though it's only had probably 2 or 3 boxes of ammo put through it at most.

I'd be surprised if your insert was added as an aftermarket option due to the anticipated cost of doing so, so I'd guess it might be a factory option?

Very nice. I use Mother's and a clean cotton rag for the same effect. You can use a piece of oiled up Scotch Bright to bring back the brushed steel look to it, but I prefer the polished look. What I don't like is the bar of soap rounded corners Dremel/ polishing wheel look that some guys end up with when they add electric tools to the mix...

The front sight is original as it’s part of the ramp, the insert may not be original, as installing one is not that hard if you know what you are. Original or not your M-60 looks great after a clean up.

Anyone know where I can get those wooden grips like the ones on the M60-4 in the picture above? I just bought a Model 60-14, 2 1/8" bbl with the rubber grips. Any help would be appreciated.

You can buy them from the factory. Stainz has the part number.

Checked website and of course, not there. I e-mailed S&W but have yet to hear from them. I'll give them a call with the info. Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated. I've never shot .357 magnum before. Will the wooden grips be as comfortable as the rubber grips? Just curious.

Polishing guns, detail cleaning guns, and restoring grips are my winter projects. I can sit in front of the idiot tube and get SOMETHING productive done.

My M60 came with rubber Uncle Mikes but I've never shot it with those grips. For .38 Specials, the laminate wood grips work well and do not slip in my hand.

A 2 1/8" .357 may be a different story.
