Just purchased this DAO Bobbed Hammer M64 revolver through Gunbroker and would like to know your thoughts about whether it's original factory or someone's handiwork. Don't know if it means anything but the seller is located in Queens, NY. and said he's owned it many years. I've included this information because I've read about the NY revolvers in this configuration on the forum. There are no stampings indicating NYPD but there are some unusual numbers on the grip frame that could mean something or just be assembly numbers. Hopefully the photos will help with evaluation.
Everyone's input is much appreciated.
Thank you!
Ray

I know that Brinks Security had some DAO 64s that were sold about 7 to 10 years ago.

I have a 2" and 4" from them but don't recall seeing any 3" models.

Someone with more knowledge than I will chime in but that is a nice looking 64 you have there.

I attached a pic of mine. The 2 inch has a Combat Action package done so the finish is no longer original.

Sure looks like it could be factory but the real way to know would be to get it lettered. I would just enjoy it for what it is, a very nice revolver that they'll never make any more of

That is a factory DAO hammer, whether or not it shipped DAO is worth the cost of having the gun lettered.

This little gem is not a NYPD gun which is no big deal unless you were specifically looking for one.

Enjoy it, you have what in my opinion is the best configuration of the K frame service revolvers.

Very nice! Congrats.

I have an M65 3", with a standard hammer. The 3" K frames are sweet.

Definitely factory hammer. I'd say it's a safe bet it left the factory that way. Great gun congrats. BUT am I the only one wondering how much it cost u with todays crazy prices ?

I would agree with ordering the letter, but even if it is factory modification there is no guarantee they will comment on it.

I know this first hand as I did obtain a letter for a 2" Brinks gun with a factory bobbed hammer and clearly asked in my letter for them to comment on it, but they did not.

I like to have the option of shooting Single Action if I want to do so .
I might want to take a long shot and I shoot my model 64 at long range when I shoot single action .
Also ... I like the option of being able to ease the hammer down without shooting or dry firing the revolver .

I grew up shooting Single Action Blackhawk , so SA triggers and hammers are my friend , I can ease them back or ease them down with no problem .
Bobbed gives you a cleaner profile while still giving you the option of "cocking" ... want to shoot DAO ... Shoot DAO and ignore the little hammer nub...untill the day comes when you want to use it .. Then ...Wal-Lah ... the bobbed hammer is there .
I would leave it bobbed ... options are good !

I got to thinking ... you revolver may be converted to only fire DAO and the provision to bring to full cock may have been removed ... now that would upset me ... I like the model 64 to go both ways DA & SA !

That's a beauty, enjoy it. I think I saw your gun on GB when I was researching my Model 64-5 3" I bought on this website a few weeks ago. It just feels like the perfect size & weight for a 38spl revolver. Edit: One thing that's different between your Model 64-5 and mine is the serial number on mine is on the butt of the grip frame only and not on the frame like yours.

Typically the NYCPD guns will have the serial number marked on the left side of the frame under the cyclinder cut out. The serial number will be either staamped, dot-matrix style punch stamped or acid-etched decal style marking.

SA

There does not appear to be a SA notch in the hammer! A possible change for the OP is to replace the hammer with a complete spur! This is an easy task and many times there is no fitting required.
