Bulgarian MAK's

The Bulgarian Mak's are the only Mak's I have fired. Liked the fit and finish. I thought they were well built, also, they were accurate, even for me. Thanks for the head's-up.

Do not be jumpink on me pleese! I have had a couple MAKS and sold them. Bought them primarily because of the glowing recommendations. What is the attraction?

Why did you sell them. I like the MAK; its tough as a tank, totally reliable and accurate. Not very pretty but mine are accurate and fit my hand.

I think they are better than a 380 very acurate. I carry one as a back up a lot. I love em!!

My 2 cents...

Gotta respect them Soviet block firearms, built like tanks !!

My East German Makarov circa 1961...

...bought it to compliment my Yugo AKMS

.380 and 9X18 ballistics are pretty close. The Mak is about as big as a single stack 9mm and is a holster gun. The only holster carry .380 I have left is my personal favorite, a Browning BDA.

The CZ82 is a more updated design, with a true polygonal barrel, double stack mag, better sights and can be carried cocked and locked or hammer down as a DA/SA. The Maks are good guns, stout and simple. Both are steel and heavier and bigger than a lot of nines that are currently on the market. In 2004 or 2005 I was paid $129.95 for a couple of the Bulgy Maks from AIM, wish I would of bought a garage full. I think at that time I was also gettting Barnuel 9X18 for $5-$6 a box, should off bought a whole bunch.

If I remember correctly-the Makarov is 9x18, the .380 is a 9x17 and the Pmm parabellum is a 9x19. I just never saw the need for a malarov simply because of the ammunition issue. If one wanted a cheap reliable 9, a hi point in .380 or 9mm makes more sense from an ammo standpoint than a makarov

The 9x18 was simply the Russian Military's choice. I'd rather have a MAK than a Hi-Point any day.

I owned a MAK with adjustable sights, and regret selling it. I still have a CZ82 and have no intention of ever selling it. As I reload 9x18 ammo is not a problem. The CZ82 is a little on the large size but I consider it more manageable that a comparable sized 9x19.

I know the 9x18 is a little more powerful than 380, but I'm not sure how much practical difference there is. For that matter if you are talking ball ammo I'm not sure how much advantage 9x19 would give you. Seems like most of the energy is wasted on over penetration. So with ball ammo the 9x18 may actually be slightly better or at least as good as 9x19.
