Ok, it might sound a bit extreme, but I'm pretty good friends with the sheriff here, and should ANY new legislation pass that restrics the use or purchase of hi-cap mags or our evil "assault rifles", he told me he plans on going door-to-door within the county and "deputizing" as many individuals that want to keep their weapons, so they can continue to own and use them under the protection of being law enforcement..I'm in a rural area so i know it wont work everywhere, but perhaps this template could be used other places that they are fighting to even the legal odds...just wanted to
Mention it...

Boy, I like it, but I can see all kind of potential legal trouble. If I were deputized I would assume I had arrest powers. Also, in many places sworn officers must pass the BLET. Here (NC), the Sheriff can certify but I believe the certification is for a short time only (1 year).

Our Sheriff's department makes great use of reserve deputies, but these folks are all trained and certified and they are unable to find law enforcement employment. Working as a reserve deputy keeps the certification current.

well. no one said it was perfect nor trouble free.
Clever .... yup its qualifies for that distinction.
Honestly, since its intent is to avoid a different brand of trouble its a pick your poison kind of deal.
I like his brand of trouble better

No doubt it would be deputized in name only, a posse never to be called upon. But you know how some folks are.
