Model 13-3 3-inch - Why So High?

$2500 seems silly, but folks don't often criticize others for spending north of $2.5K to $3K for a Diamondback or Python, which are much more ubiquitous than 3" 13/65s.

Speaking of 3" 13/65s, today I am expecting to receive my sexy new 65-5 LS. It will fit in nicely with my 13-3 and 65-5. All acquired for less than $800 each. The 13-3 was ANIB and purchased from the original owner, who also provided the original box of ammo, less 6 rounds.

Those are all beauties that you should be proud to own.

Good point. If someone was to give me a gun and it was a choice between a 3" 13 and a similar condition python, I wouldn't hesitate for a second and pick the 13. I know that doesn't make sense because I could sell the python, buy a 13 and still put money in my pocket but I'd still pick the 13.

LGS sells a lot of Wilson, Nighthawk, and Staccatos. All are $2000 plus. All are basically worth less 3 years from now. They are great guns. But that money buys something that has a pretty good chance of appreciating for a time. Still, there are many I'd enjoy shooting.

A few yrs back my son who was in Colorado called from a gun show to ask if I thought $700 was to much for a 6" 686 he was looking at. I said indeed that was a crazy price and if he wanted one I'd just send him my mint 6" 686 no dash with factory stocks and Hogue wood stocks. He said ok great. Then it cost me $60 to ship it to him thru FFL………… I remind him often it's currently a $1000 gun. He'll one day get all my guns, once in a while he gets one early lol.

When I pick up one of my older S&W revolvers, I can imagine the real live gunsmith in Springfield assembling it, fitting the parts, writing the model number, barrel length, etc. on the box, etc. There's a connection to human craftsmanship there, a feeling of..."quality"...

When I pick up a recently-manufactured S&W revolver, I see a triumph of CNC machining and modern metallurgy, and a prominent reminder of the CYA philosophy that governs many businesses these days...

Ten years from now, the eye-popping prices we're seeing today for many of these older wheelguns will seem like bargains...

I picked up this 13-4 in February for less than $800 OTD.

Funny thing, I started a thread last week asking if you had $1000 to invest in a S&W what would you buy. Hoping for appreciation over 5 years. 90% of replies were , guns are not investments and there's better places to put your money and if you only have $1000 you can't invest in anything blah blah blah……….. seems to me a lot of people in this thread agree with me. Some S&Ws are on the rise quickly. I even referenced the model 13 & 65. But hey, what do I know.

Guy at the lgs last week said a fella spent 11k in 3 days buying stuff that he could get hois money back on.Paid 3750 for a python he had in there for years.Strange times we are living in.

I had this one for sale at several gun shows in this area for a year or 2. Last time was about 6-7 months ago. I upped the price to 850.00 so I could drop 50 but added 250 rds of Rem ammo, 2 speedloaders and a nylon Bianchi holster. This was at my gunclub so I wanted to give someone a deal. At least I thought it was. The gun is in nice shape.
Granted the holster was for a 4" and camo, but it was nice. Exactly as you see it with the boxes of ammo in the cat food box. Maybe there were no cat lovers. Several people looked at it but thought my price was too high. Was offered 6 without the other stuff. When I got home, I was relieved it hadn't sold. Wiped it down and in the safe it goes. I don't have many spare guns that I don't mind parting with, so I'm hanging on to it for now. I have some friends that might need a gun in the future or as a gift. I think I got it for 225 some 15 or 20 years ago. BUT for 2K I can dig out the camo holster again. HA!
Things on GB are always a mystery to me. But hey if I was rich I would drop 80k for a decent 1968 Bullitt Mustang. Why-----Why not...

Fair price, I'd have paid that.

It's a rare exception when anything stays in my safe more than 2 years or less.
I simply don't get attached to any one firearm.
I buy,fix if needed, use a while and move it to a new caretaker.
I like to try ones I never owned before or revisit ones from the past.
Always looking for the unaltered.
