Model 14 Needs New Barrel

A friend of mine was given a Model 14, 6" barrel, but it has a problem. Bob Cameron (my friend) is pretty sure the gun had a "squib load" sometime in its past history, and the barrel got damaged.

I asked him to get me the exact model number and serial number, which I should have in a day or so.

The goal, is to find a replacement barrel, that Bob can install to replace the damaged barrel. If possible, he would prefer to put on an 8" barrel.

Can someone point us in the right direction, if possible, to get some new parts?

I am not sure, but why does he want to put a 8&3/8" barrel on it. Bob

I'm not sure either - it has 6" now, but he said he'd prefer the longer barrel. Maybe because he saw my Model 14 with the long barrel? I dunno.

He thinks that there is a spot in his barrel where the barrel "opens up" slightly. I'm not sure how anyone could check that, and while he thinks it is making the gun less accurate, since the spot is at least 4" away from the muzzle, I'm not sure how It could affect the accuracy.

Thinking out loud, if we were to take a Lewis Lead Remover, we could pull it through the barrel, and see if the force got "easier" some place in the barrel, indicating that the barrel has a bulge?

I have a 4" barrel, but guess that's going the wrong direction for what you're looking for...

Get a 36 caliber muzzle loader ball and drive it down the muzzle with a brass punch. Oil up the barrel lightly first. Once ball is slugged to barrel by starting it should move in the barrel with an equal amount of force all the way. If there is a loose spot or a tight spot it will show up

See if it shoots small groups, first. Maybe no harm to accuracy at all.
If you can borrow a Ransom Rest or something similar, you may be surprised.
