Ok folks -

I just picked this at the local Cabela's. I would rate it at a VG condition overall, I will shine it up some more...It is wearing aftermarket Herrett's as you can see. SN 257K898, putting it as 1982 manufacture per the SWSC, at the very beginning of the 19-5 (post P&R era).

My question is on the grips - what would have been the originals? I am thinking either the Magna or CS (Lew Hortons like)? Too early for the CS (I know LH had many guns with the CS but most I have seen have been in the 1984-1986 vintages?

Here are some recent examples I saw on GB to get a sense, but it is all over the place. I am struggling determining what might have been original to it- any takers here? I am thinking of adding CS RB but can see the original magna's looking great on it as well.

PS: Here are two of its brothers - 19-3 and 19-6 in blue, dressed up with aftermarket elk antler grips...:-)

Thanks! So, those would be the standard magna RB grips from the 70s (is how I refer to them)...

Would the Combat RB Grips have been an option in 82? I do have a spare CS RB and was thinking of either putting them on, or getting the magnas above (from ebay)...

Is the above revolver a -5? Looks like it...just want to look out for the right grain and wood (walnut looks like).

The combats were first available in 1982.
I put a set on this Model 19-4 that came to me with goodyears. For my hands, they feel great on a K frame...and they look great IMO. Shooting a magnum with magna grips isn't easy with my hands; I need more to hold onto.
If you already have a set of combats, I wouldn't hesitate.

Yes, standard RB magnas from late '60's ~ early '80's.

I am not aware of any Model 19 that shipped to Lew Horton or any other with combat or RB targets.

Yes, it's a -5 and they are Walnut.

Nice looking snubby here! Yes, I will dress mine in the combats and take a couple of pics, along with some other Lew Horton revolvers I have.

And yes - the Combats, along with the Target Stocks are so much easier to shoot with than the Magnas. Funny thing is we all get those older revolvers with rubber (as people who carried them wanted rubber on them), we put wood on them!

And then, to make things even funnier, I put rubber on two of my EDC snubbies - a Kimber KS6 and Colt DS...so, rubber for shooting, walnut for looks!

I'm sure it'll look great. Looking forward to the pics.

I like wood and you don't have to worry as much about oxidation underneath.

As previously stated in this forum several times, don't use expensive guns for EDC. If you have to use it, it will likely be held and possibly not returned (at least not in the same condition).

My EDC's are dependable but lower condition/cost-- a well-used 586, a 642, a SA XD40 tactical, a Ruger SP101, and a Ruger LCP. I vary them depending on what I'll be doing.

ok gang -

I dressed it up with some aftermarket combats I had on a 617. Here are two pics:

1. Along a 3" 66-3, 2.5" 686 no dash, 3" 657-1....While all the combats are a little different, I think the 19 does need a little more barrel - either length or full lug to gain the proportionality of the N frame and the L frames next to it (with the combats). Seems like a 3" 686 would be the best fit for combats (balancing barrel length and shape vs. the combats profile and size)?

2. Next to its blued twin brother, 2.75" Ruger Speed Six and 2" Colt DS 3rd issues. I like the looks of the blued 19 and the DS the most - balance between barrel and stocks.

Since I won't be carrying it, and may just occasionally shoot it, I am leaning towards finding a nice set of proper magna stocks for it. It seems like the magnas fit that short K-frame profile the best (to my eye, at least, the combats fit to my hand better).

You sure do have some nice revolvers and grips! I really like shorter barrel revolvers and I could look at those all day!:giggle:
