I worked in Law Enforcement for 29 years, so I'am use to concealed carry. I have been looking at a Model 686 2 1/2 in. and like it alot. I carry a 442 now. My concern is the weight. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm retired now so this would be home use and concelled carry in winter etc.

I've carried a 2" Model 10 IWB and didn't have any problems. I don't think 1/2" and one more round would make a lot of difference...

My daughter has a 2 1/2 inch 686+ and it's a wonderful gun. With a decent holster it wouldn't be bad at all for concealed carry in weather where a bit of extra clothing would be appropriate. It's probably the only gun any of my kids have that I'm envious of.

I never think of a 686 with 7 holes - But then again, I'm just an old fashion guy

There is a bit of difference between the K Frame and L Frame in both size and weight though.
And - I'm not sure if this is accurate - A Stainless Steel gun *feels* heavier than a blued one ( )

The S&W WS lists the 686+ 2.5" at 35ozs. I had the six shot version years ago. I'm probably not too big in the scheme of things. 6'1" 222 lbs. That gun seemed pretty heavy to carry. If you hanker for the 686+ try to see what holsters are out there. I'd prefer a 19 or 66 over the 686 for carry.

A lot of it will depend on the holster and belt used for carry. I carry a 24-3 concealed occasionally, and with the right belt and holster set-up, I really don't notice the weight.

I'm gonna go ahead and get one. I just got excited thinking about it, thats why the problem above.

I don't care whether you carry it or not, it is a sweet shooter and that's reason enough to buy it. I once dropped a skunk at about 100 yards with my 686 snubby. Surprised me as much as it did him. Lew Horton had a good idea with that one.
