This one started life as a 308 Mowhawk 600.

Now a heavy barreled 6.5 Creedmoore with a Boyd's Thumbhole and a Redfield 4x12 with milldots

Here is a 3.5" Model 27-2 that was rusted and pitted and bought as a project for the previous owner. He sent it to a gunsmith friend of his and he round butted the frame. Then he tuned, and timed the action, rounded the back of the hammer and added a smooth combat trigger. He fine bead blasted away the rust and almost all of the pitting, then blued it. Finally, an easy to pick up front sight insert was added to the plan blade. I really like it and think S&W should have made a 3.5" model 27 with a round butt a normal catalog item.

1984 686 MagNaPort Custom

Posted last year when aquired...more of a good thing...

1984 S&W 686 No Dash 2.5" Magnaport Custom (1of2 known to exist)

Purchased and received from the original owner; an older gentleman in NC. He purchased 2 Brand New in 1984 and immediately sent them to Magnaport for the work. The list below is over $800 now. Then anyone's guess on cost.

Magnaport actually sent both to S&W for the "M" Stamp recall work. They would not work on the guns otherwise. No matter my original 1984 686 4" had the "M" Stamp performed. GTG.

Once complete when returned to his FFL he convinced the owner to sell him 1 which he did as he was a friend. Does that still exist somewhere today? Check your WeeGee Board and let me know.

Services Performed:
Jewel and Polish Trigger and Hammer
Inverted Muzzle Crown
Front Sight Insert (Red)
Combat Trigger Conversion..Smooth Face and Polish
Action...S&W Double Action
Etch MagNaPort Logo
Velvet Hone Finish
Polish Cylinder Flutes, Cylinder Release, Screws and Ejector Rod
Number chambers and Install Wolf Springs

Nice Roscoe Porter.

Best, Dave

Bought a 686 barrel from Brownells a while back so I could see if could cut half the lug off. Turned out OK so I bought a 686-4 to put it on.

616-3 4"

616-2 6"

Bought a NOS 4" 617 no lug barrel on Ebay a while back so I had to buy a 617 no dash to put it on.

617 no dash 6" with 648 cylinder

I usually leave my revolvers alone except for some spring tweaking. I did have a new front sight put on a 686. And have several 1911's that are full blown customs

This gun was commissioned by bascrambler and built by the late John Gallagher. It started as a transitional .38 Outdoorsman. Cylinder bored to .44 Special, installed a Model of 1950 4" barrel cut to 3.5" with gold bead front sight like a Registered Magnum and a rust blue. Grips were non-relieved smooth Targets custom checkered by ???? I've since changed the grips to transitional magnas numbered just 30 off from the guns serial number.

Can't take my eyes off that gun, just perfect.

I love custom guns. I understand keeping pristine guns stock and the same goes for hard to find models. I only have 2 that I wish were still stock. I have a 5 screw 1955 that I made into a 45 colt long before I every knew it was a semi collectable/ I regret doing that NOW as I have plenty of others 45 colts. I also have a 455 triple lock that had been reamed and partial recessed to fire 45 colts before I got it.

The rest of mine came to me already a bit off. I bought 7 of the J&G 10-7 gun smith specials all missing their original barrels, I have a 12-2 that came to me with a badly pitted barrel and cylinder, the "pre" 28 I made into a 45 colt came with coated cylinder. The cut down 1917 came with no barrel, the Brazilians were typical road hard Brazilians, the pinto Smolt's 15-2 2" frame and cylinder were badly pitted, I also have a 2 1/2 " 357 made from a 10-2 that had a junk barrel, the one 629-1 had a 8 3/8" barrel that had been tapped for a scope, the other also had a 8 3/8" barrel and although it was nice I had found a total of 4 629-1 for $500 each so the long Tom became a 45 colt. I have an I frame 22 that came with a 2" barrel and almost no blue left. Now it is a 4" with a fresh blue job

A typical J&G 10-7
