To me it is the one that at the end of the day got the job done. In this case it was a Ruger 77 Sporter in 30-06 SS with laminate stock. And depending on the next hunt it would be different.....
Has to be the Browning safari bolt actions made by FN. Quality work and first rate components. Very accurate my 30-06 from 1966 could cover a playing card at 200 yds.
I saw an RSI.308 (tang safety, my favorite) at a gun show many years ago. It couldn't have been Rugers standard birch stock
Because it was absolutely stunning. The late John Wooters had one chambered in .250 Savage. I don't know if it was ever a catalogued item in that caliber, but I'd trade body parts for one (I didn't say my own parts, though.)
I would have to say the old Husqvarna-built Mausers, which were once sold by S&W.
I also liked the looks of the Remington 700 Mountain Rifle.
I've owned two pre-64 M70s and think they're the most overrated sporting rifle of all time.
