MOTORCYCLE PURCHASE ADVICE NEEDED!!!!

YES I STAND CORRECTED...

Wow !!! You are putting some miles on that H-D ! When are you gonna hit 2 million miles ??? Shoo :)
P.S. Me thinks you forgot the decimal point ???

Sorry about that,,,Put in one to many 0's. The bike has 110546 miles on it as of today. I love to ride...

Since the late 60's, I've ridden everything from H-D, Kawasaki, Honda, Cagiva, KTM, Husqvarna, Benelli and probably a few I've forgotten. From full-dress Harleys to crotch-rockets. I actually prefer the crotch-rockets.

As one or two others have said, I never rode more than about 60 miles on the H-D without stopping to rest, and I got off feeling like I'd done 12 rounds with Rocky.

I have been out of bikes for about 10 years now, but if I were to get back, the Gold Wing would be my choice for distance or mid-length rides, hands down. Ride all day as comfortably as sitting in a car.

For a cruiser only, I still wouldn't take a Harley, it would be a Victory.

For carving twisty's, on places like the Tail of the Dragon and other local rides, the H-D's are so hideously out of place it is pathetic. A crotch-rocket is the only way to go. Honda, Kawasaki, and Ducati all make great ones. Suzuki probably still has the fastest, the Hayabusa, but I never really cared for the brand.

So, my recommendation is to look at the type riding you want to do and choose accordingly.

For a wonderful, safe, reliable bike that can cruise and carve...look at the BMW lineup. Just like their cars, they really are amazing machines.

Am ruling out a Sportster, though. I want something comfortable, non-spoked wheels, and appropriate to ride on highways.

Current Sportsters now have rubber-mounted engines, so they are much more comfortable to ride than the early models. Some models have non-spoked wheels as standard equipment. And of course, a brand new Sportster will cost way less than than a good used big Harley.

Whatever you get, if you can delay the purchase til December, you might be able to get a better price.

RENT A Harley!!! It has to be a Harley. No other bike has the panache of a Harley.

Find a dealer or a shop that will rent you a bike for the ride.

Believe me, you will be as cool as anyone else, but you will not have to give up half the garage, compromise your marriage, or submit to a sanity hearing.

Get top quality leather, and a good helmet, not a bean pot.

Turn the bike in after the ride, rub your leathers down with Lexol, and RENT!!! again next year.

Gotta be a Harley. Anything else is like kissing your sister.

I just picked up this brand new HD Heritage Classic last month. What a wonderful ride.
