After being deprived due to California's ridiculous gun laws, I feel like the proverbial "kid in a candy store" every time I visit a gun store out here in Indiana.

It really is amazing. I just stand at the gun store counter in disbelief at all the nice things I can now legally buy. I actually caught myself smiling/grinning the other day as I was looking through a shop.

A few years ago, I pretty much stopped collecting and stopped looking through gunbroker because I was always frustrated at not being able to purchase what I wanted to purchase. It literally pushed me to the point of losing interest in a great hobby.

I have to say I honestly feel better being out of CA... I feel like my rights are no longer being infringed upon.

I grew up in CA, and the weather really is great out there. But, the state simply treats it's people like crap in a lot of ways. The politicians are just so righteous and act like they inherently know what's best for the citizens. Oftentimes, it seems as if they think Californians are stupid or something and need to be protected from themselves with all kinds of restrictions/laws. And yet, with all the gun restrictions out there, it's not like I felt any safer out there than I do out here in the Midwest U.S.A.

I'm also a car enthusiast and was constantly annoyed at how I was so limited/restricted in what I could legally do to enhance my project car's performance. However, everywhere I looked there were obviously illegally modified street racers. It just makes no sense.

I don't know how to describe it other than to say that I actually feel like I'm allowed to breathe more freely out here in the Midwest.

Anyways, I'm glad to be out of there and I truly empathize for all the fellow gun enthusiasts in CA. I will probably visit CA frequently because so many areas are really beautiful. But, I truly am done being infringed upon.

Regards,
James

Let me get this straight...you felt like a kid in a candy store going into a commercial gun store? Take a deep breath.

You didn't say where in Indiana you moved to. There's a big road running north/south. At the south end there's a bridge over a river. Find the road and take it on Saturday, Oct 16th. Continue on a few miles until you see a sign at the exit for Kentucky State Expo Center. Just before the Louisville airport. Go inside and park. Take along a paper bag in case you hyperventilate. Watch for idiots in camo and follow them.

Inside you'll find a gun show. It'll cost you a bit, but its worth every penny for the sensory overload that will follow. You'll find a hall full of evil guns. Slick Willie, the former lying Prez, commented it was nothing but an arms bazaar. He was right.

Plan on spending the entire day. Doors open to the general public at about 9:00. If you can walk, you'll get a day's worth of more guns than you've ever imagined. Its only a month away. Save your pennies, you'll need them. Yes, there are Indiana dealers who will handle a transfer for you. They're legally not supposed to do that, but they do. You will have to pick up any new treasures at their shop. Or not. Probably better to arrange it in advance with a gun store near where you live.

A gun store may have 50 or 100 used guns. NGD (National Gun Day) will have 50 per table, times 2,000. Give or take. Did I tell you to save your money? You'll need it.

A lot of us are still worried about possible future infringement on our rights. I think our best recourse is to support organizations (like the NRA) and go to the polls to keep the Pelosis, Boxers, Daleys, and Bloombergs away from any semblance of power over our lives.

Welcome, James!

I trust that you shall soon see how the term; "Hoosier Hospitality" came about.

I've lived in several other areas around this great country, but always seem to find my way back to Indiana.

And I completely understand your reference to being "...allowed to breath more freely..."

Welcome to the forum.

When I moved back to CA in 75, the place was a god send. Spent a year or so up in northern CA. After living in NJ it was great. Stayed 14 or so years. Now, since I moved back to NJ, I can't bring the guns I bought in CA back to CA.
MT and NV need me, whether they know it or not.
Spent college time in the mid-west and I think I need the mountains.

California's not so bad...

i can even have a fire in my own fireplace..if my county's air control board says i can on a given day...

people here just don't seem to care about how much freedom we have voluntarily given back to the state...

I went through the exact same thing when I moved to Idaho five years ago. I went a bit nuts whipping out the plastic (debt, not credit) when I saw something I thought I needed.

When I go visit my son near Sack-a-tomatos I can't wait to leave. I remember when I-80 wasn't even a freeway in Auburn. When Roseville/Rocklin/Lincoln were seperate towns, etc. etc. (Oh, and guns weren't evil.)

One thing James, brace yourself for February. I'll be in Tucson.

If you're anywhere close to central Indy, check out the Indianapolis 1500 gun show. It is easily the same size as the NGDs that I've been to in Louisville but with the added benefit that you won't have to pay an FFL transfer fee since you're in-State.

Next assignment? Make the drive down to Knob Creek for the MachineGunShoot in October!

WELCOME TO THE MIDWEST---------

SHHHHHHH--don't tell everybody--we kinda like things the way they are. You'll love the people too.

Steve

That's what's so sad. The great weather and the natural beauty everywhere you look and they insist on running the whole state off a cliff. Damn shame.
