This is my first n frame revolver, 6 inch blue 29-2, factory fired only. There was no internet when this gun was purchased. Finding others to share interest in S&W revolvers involved traveling. This website is the ultimate in how far the sharing of information has progressed. It is still amazing how much information is available, and how willing these seasoned, informed individuals are to help or offer advice about almost anything. Ever wonder how many years combined experience is available for the asking? Anyway, these are photos of something that I looked for, and finally found.

Everything about that gun looks amazing. The level of polish to the steel, the gloss of the bluing, the colors on the hammer and trigger, the red hue in the wood, the fit and finish of the stock, EVERYTHING!!!

This is just another one that shows they just don't make them the way they used to.

Congratulations on your first N frame and you bought a beauty. My first N frame if I remember correctly was a Model 28-2 with 6 inch barrel with an N serial number made in 1978. That led to my next which was a Model 27-2 with 6 inch barrel and the slide down hill continued from there. That's my latest first purchase when I ventured back into revolvers about 4 years ago. I owned a Model 29-2 with 6 inch barrel and presentation case back in the mid 80's and shot it for about a year and then sold it when I moved into semi auto pistols and I had the 1911 fever and later the Sig fever.

My first was a retired police Model 28 4", and my second was exactly like your first! I was young, dumb, and full of ambition, and ended up selling or trading them off (can't remember which)! I sometimes wish we had do-overs........

That's a great looking first N frame. Looks like it has been well cared for down through the years.

My first N frame was a model 29-5, 6 inch barrel, still have it and still looks good.

My first N frame was a 27-2 5" followed by a 1917 in .45 ACP.

I'll post pictures when I get home.

Kinda hard to top that as a first purchase, you've set a standard that's going to be hard to maintain . . . nice !

My first N Frame (if'n I recall correctly) was a new-in-the-presentation case nickel 27 with an 8 & 3/8th inch tube, back somewhere's around 1975-76. Followed it up with a matching 29 and a matching 57, same configuration. Got an offer 'too good to refuse' from a local gun shop owner a few years later and left with a back seat full of handguns, rifles and at least one shotgun for that set of three. Many years down the road I wish I'd have kept the original set ( along with a slew of others I traded for shiny baubles that usually didn't live up to the allure).

I'm slightly ashamed to admit the reasoning behind obtaining my first 'N' frame, which incidentally was my first S&W.

I was in my late teens, working summers and p/t at one of the largest GS's in the area. (mid-70's).
I had, of course, been spending most of my pay on things there, notably, my first centerfire revolver, a Ruger Security Six .357 in SS, as well as my first reloading setup.
I was determined to make that .357 perform yeoman's duty as a .44 magnum, regardless of the bore diameter and other triviality. After all,
I was most of the way to being a expert magnum handloader! Plus, I read everything I could collect of Elmer Keith and Skeeter Skelton's works. (yes, I was an odd teenager...)

I decided that the big ol' cylinder on a M28 would be just the ticket for me to 'go where no man had gone before' in .357 performance.
I traded a regular customer even, my Ruger for his NIB M28 6".

I tortured it for a few years with stuff that would have been most likely well beyond most proof loads - and failed to ever hurt it. It went away in a trade.
The real 'Smith Bug' didn't bite 'til about 6-7 years ago. I've got right many now.

No pics , it was long ago , but my first N-frame was an 8 3/8" Model 629. Bought it wanting to get into metallic silhouette shooting. Didn't do all that well with it and sold it when I bought my .41 Mag Ruger Redhawk. I did buy a 6in Model 57 shortly there after! Thus started my love affair with the .41 magnum.

My first N frame was this 29-5. It had some old rubber grips on it, was missing the front screw that attaches the sight assembly to the frame, and the screw hole had been stripped. It had been mag-na-ported, hard chromed, and had an "action job". I think I paid $340 for it. Found a gunsmith who retapped the hole and replaced the screw and I replaced the grips with Hogue Tulip Wood.
Very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. One of my favorite range guns.

4" 24-3 purchased in 1985, the year I got married.

I still have the gun:-)

My first N-frame was a

Model 29 6 1/2 in blue 44 magnum. Bought it from a gun store in Datona Beach, Fl. I was 18 and my best friends mother got it for me.

My first N-frame was a 6" 25-5 in .45 Colt that I never could make shoot well. Eventually gave up, sold everything I had for .45 Colt, and became a .44 Special enthusiast. Haven't had a .45 Colt since. Not to badmouth the Colonel's heavyweight, guess it just wasn't my cup of tea.

My first N Frame was a Mod. 28-2 purchased at a local Hardsare store. I was in my junior year in college and that 4 inch beauty cost me $105.00 Was given $65.00 trade-in on my Mod.36 and $40.00 yankee dollars,
