Hello folks,
I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks while I was considering a new purchase. It showed up yesterday. I was wondering if anyone could give me a guesstimate on a manufacture date while I'm waiting for my letter. It's a fourth model 32 with a six inch barrel and the serial# is 170280. If I can ever over come my computerstupid, I'll try to post a pic.
Thanks, -Jon

Hi Jon,

Welcome to the forum. These are nice folks and I'm sure you will enjoy it.
In terms of your question I can't answer it but there is a list of serial #'s and dates in the FAQ's

Jeff

Jon,
I could be wrong, but that serial number would place the gun into the 5th Model, produced between 1910 and 1917.

Yes.
You might consider picking up a copy of SCSW #3 (Standard Catalog of S&W). Everything you need to know about S&Ws.

Jon, 1883-1909, 4th Model.
Sorry...There was no photo when I responded to your inquiry, and I saw nothing about the gun being a topbreak.
Assumed it was a HE.

A neat-looking gun, with great, vintage-looking ivories.
If you pick up a copy of Supica & Nahas' SCS&W, you'll find hours of great reading inside!

I just could'nt pass it up. Everything is super tight and the bore is excellent. I've kinda been steering towards old revolvers over the last year or so, but this one makes me think I might need a few more smiths. Thanks for the info about the book. I'll try to find one soon.
