I desperately need a new TV. My current one is a 2006 48” Plasma TV, and it has seen much better days! I figure since it is Super Bowl time, there should be some great deals. I really don’t need a larger TV, but I do need a smart TV. I know bigger is better, but my spare is limited. Have any of you folks recently bought a TV that you like? Any advice would be appreciated.

The great deals will be he week after the Superbowl! Since I'm not a football guy it didn't matter.

I bought mine a few years ago, and it was the "last year's model. I was looking for a 32-34" model to fit the area on the wall but got a 45" that was the same external size, they did away with the 2" boarder.

They warn you don't buy too big of TV! Pay attention, that is so true. You want to enjoy the rest of the room as well!

Check out Costco. They have a sale on TV's thru Fed 12th. While you're there, grab a $4.99 rotisserie chicken! :)

We bought a 55" Samsung Q6 series 4K UHD TV from them back in 2019, after our 1 year old LG gave up the ghost. The LG was less than a month out of warranty and we were told it wasn't worth repairing. I'll never buy another LG product again. The Samsung came with a 5 year warranty and was highly recommended. It links to our Wi-Fi and includes hundreds of free Samsung Plus channels. Picture and sound are excellent. The remote is mostly voice actuated, which has a definite learning curve.

We're pretty happy with the Samsung. The only down side is, it's haunted! It occasionally turns itself back on a few minutes after we shut it off.

I don't know what the latest and greatest is these days, but you'll be pleasantly surprised how the prices have come down. I bought a 65" higher-end Samsung on Black Friday about about four years ago for $1500 -- a good price at the time. A comparable Samsung today is only about $650.

Good luck with your search.

We picked up a 55" LG last fall for around $400 to place over the fireplace. Typically we'll go with a year old or more old technology for a much more reasonable price than the latest/greatest, and they look fine to us. You said you don't really need a larger screen, but unless it won't fit in your room, at $400, what the heck? Also have a 13 year old 'dumb' 58" Panasonic plasma in the man loft that IMO has a great picture. I'll have that one until it dies.

I've bought my last tv's at Sam's Club. I like Vizio's. The one in my living room is a 72" smart tv. I took delivery to my door last time and set it up with help from my daughter and SIL. Next time I'll pay to have it done and the old one hauled away!

Bought a 55" Samsung off Amazon a couple years back. A bit less than $500 as I recall. Works well. TVs, as noted above, are amazingly inexpensive these days.

I have the 55" in a media room off my bedroom. In the living room I've got a 32". I'm one of those guys who doesn't want the TV taking over the living room. I've looked into concealing a larger TV in a cabinet or behind a chair, but decided I'm not into TV that much and will just go upstairs if I really want to watch something on a bigger screen.

We have a LG 83” OLED for the living room…pricey but awesome. A LG 24” in the dining room…inexpensive but does the job very well. A Samsung 40” in the bedroom…also excellent.

An aside…televisions are the only good products Samsung makes. Their appliances are troublesome to say the least…been there…done that.

I have bought Samsung the last two TV's. Why. I went to Walmart and looked at all the TV's on the wall and the best picture was always a Samsung. Last on was a 40 inch smart Samsung from Amazon as it was the best price. Lots of free Samsung channels, plus Prime and after the Superbowl I am going to cancel cable. I can get the same channels free and from Prime paying around $15 a month.

Well, I clicked on this link thinking you had engaged your inner-Elvis and smoked the TV in a dry fire exercise turned ugly.

I guess the current thread is preferable.

Two thumbs up for Costco on this.

I was in a similar situation to yours. I discovered that with the improvements in design, my 65" LG Oled TV fits into the same space as my old 48" Sony Plasma TV. Hope this helps.

OLED has the best picture quality, therefore it costs the most. :) There are plenty of more affordable TVs out there. The LCD models with full matrix LED illumination get good reviews, but are a step down on OLED. As for the Smart TV facilities, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Don't bother, a better TV will make you see the stupidity in the world and you will just want to shoot it. If I were you I would take the one I had and shoot it full of holes in some deserted place and never look back. When my TV goes, I will have a hard time justifying getting a new one. I pay $$ for reruns of Harry Potter and Marvel comics movies. It would be one thing if I was getting John Wayne movies all the time but, when I do get them, they are the ones they always play, McClintock. Give me McQ or A Quiet Man once in a while.

Also in the hunt.
Probably will be a 65 inch Samsung.
Qled or Oled?
Con-fusing!
I say - if you brought both to my house for a month, then came and picked one up.
Which one would I decide to keep?
Seller Dude - Depends!
Hard to say. Could go either way.

I bought a Vizio 55” LED smart TV at WalMart almost 4 years ago. I do not remember what I paid but less than $400. No complaints so far. It replaced a 50” Samsung plasma which lasted 10 years before it died and had superb picture quality. I believe plasma sets have gone the way of the dodo. Too bad. No knowledge about QLED or OLED. Not sure I would pay much of a premium for either one vs. an LED.

With many consumer products the exact model is retailer specific. Walmart will buy truckloads of products made specifically for them with changes so they can sell it cheaper without losing profit margins. I know that's the case with tires and printers...the tires have less tread depth and printers have plastic parts rather than metal.

Whether this holds true for televisions I can't say but it would not be surprising if it was. It also makes it more difficult to compare products when the specs are different.
