Well guys I picked up this 340PD used in box w/the CT-405 grips for $580 OTD and had a few questions about these guns. I've always wanted a 340PD and think they are really cool guns in general.

My questions are how do I remove the powder residue marks from the sides of the cylinder? I gave it a quick wipe down with breakfree CLP but didn't want to use hoppes #9 or anything on the Ti cylinder without asking here first. I don't mind the marks on the front of the cylinder but the ones on the side bother me for some reason.

Also is it a given that all the Titanium cylinders will have problems, are they inherently flawed in their design? Or are the issues you read about with titanium cylinders because owners of these guns don't adhere to the warnings regarding cleaning abrasives and firing ammo outside of the recommended parameters? Is there any way to tell if the Ti cylinder's protective coating is still intact? The gun apeard to be fired very little if at all before I shot it today.
ant here are a few pics and thanks for any help guys.

S&W says to avoid anything abrasive on the titanium, and I follow their advice.

The beauty of these guns is not in their appearance.

Who said Ti cylinders have issues? I don't understand how junk like that gets started. The several Ti/scan revolvers I've owned have been trouble-free through many thousands of rounds. The flash marks on the outside of the cylinder will come off easily with one of the lead-away cloths. I use Tipton's. This does not violate S&W's cautions, which are for the cylinder face and charge holes. A nylon brush works great in the holes, as does #9. That's a fantastic price, by the way.

That's a great price.....lead cloth, nylon brush all great advice. The 340PD's are great little revolvers, you might look at some of the standard .38 wadcutters for your new Smith, they have good reported terminal ballistics.
