A while back I asked for some info from this crowd , asking if any of you had both male & female dogs at the same time . We were asked to foster this guy until they could find him a forever home . He was supposed to be a show dog , he actually won several shows as a puppy . But as he grew , he developed an underbite and the owners had no use for him . We were so disgusted that someone would treat him like this , we went ahead and said yes . It's been a month now , and he's not going anywhere , he's found his forever home . He gets along great with the sisters and you couldn't ask for a better dog . We've taken him out in public and he's very well behaved on a leash . Here's a couple of pic's of him with the girls , also one of just him . I still haven't learned how to turn pics , so if anyone can do it I'll owe him/her .

His name is Bogey . Over the years we've rescued more than a couple , and I doubt we'll stop anytime soon .

We have found by various unpleasant experiences that one male and one female works best. They are spayed/neutered as a condition of rescue, so the irritations and risks of accidental breeding are not there. With more than one of the same sex, the odds of conflict go up.

Aussies are a great breed. We had two at one time, father and daughter, Bandit and Misty. Father was a Champion CD but the daughter was never trained for competition. Both were wonderful dogs, and we had them before the breed became popular, so we got a lot of "What kind of dogs are those?" questions.

Of course, since they are 'herders' they would try to herd you at times.

We picked up Hudson 2 weeks ago. Very mellow pooch, surprisingly.
I do notice the herding tendency, as he won't walk on a leash in a straight line. He's trying to trip me up!

I hear you Tom . We got our first Aussie 35 years ago . She had been hit by a car and had crawled into some bushes . We got her out and took her to our vet , but he said he couldn't help her . We took her to an orthodontist and $2500 wlater we had our first Aussie . The vet couldn't believe we were paying to fix her when she really wasn't our dog . We had Lucky girl for 11 more years .

We were never able to have pets when we were working and away from the house so much. When we retired my wife said she wanted to get a small lap dog and we adopted a Yorkie/ Maltese pup from a local shelter. Soon after we decided to also rescue an adult female black Lab . She about 10 when we got her, but sadly lost her to bone cancer 18 months later. We then rescued a 5 year old female yellow lab who was like a big sister to our Yorkie, they were joined at the hip. Sadly we lost her to a severe case of colitis Nov. 15th of 2023. Both of these loses were heart wrenching as any animal lover can relate . Well, after 15 months being a one dog family, we just adopted a 3-year-old female yellow Lab, her name is Ariel, and we look forward to her joining us very soon. Rescue a shelter animal if you can, we've never regretted it.
