I have a chance to pick up a nice model 64-4 snubby- nickle plated and need help with base value. It is very clean and S/N is BDT4XXX. Really want gun for my collection but limited in funds. Sorry, no pics yet.

Thanks

First of all, welcome to the forum.
As for the Model 64, the 2" guns are very desirable.
I regularly see them selling for $400 + or -, depending on condition.
There's a lot of ex-California prison guns out there. These are likely stamped or engraved with rack numbers and such.
$400 is what I recently paid for this one :

Welcome to the forum. A model 64 is a very desirable gun to own. They are stainless instead of nickel. Lots of police and security dept trade-ins right now that has the price down. The 2 inch is more desirable to some people and are not found as often. A shooter grade would be around 350- 375 where I live.

The 64 is stainless steel, not nickel plated. And unless you really want the snubby you can find one with a standard 4" barrel for around $300 or less.

I have a 64 no-dash. Phenomenal gun.

Thanks Taroman: For your timely response and pic. Your pic is exactly like the one I am chasing. I can get it for 375; so you know what happens now.

the "BDT" serial number was made in april 1989. $375 is a good price for a S&W model 64-4 .38 special. i have one and it is among my favorites.

make sure the "timing" and "lock up" are good before buying.

Thanks to all for the great info. I now have a new addition to my collection. Will take to the range soon but I think I have a real find. Lock up, timing and cylinder clearance (.003) all are great and appearance is near new.

I am glad to be on this forum. Will Rogers said "the only way to learn is by reading and associating with smarter people".
