well first off sorry, I know this has to have been addressed 1000 times, but my google-fu isn't working right now...

Playing with the moon clips last night with Hornady critical defense rounds... that last one is a bear to snap in. And after I do get it snapped in, with a little mechanical help, the "ring" of cartridges is deformed enough that unloading is too tight.

any suggestions?
I may just pick up a few speed strips and set the clips aside

Having the same problem as above with factory moon clips that came with my 686 PC and Hornady Critical Defense Rounds. Would love to know of any suggestions as well.

Try different ammo or different sized clips. Not all clips work with all brass. Revolver ammo and moon clips don't work as well as moon clips for semi auto rounds.

with a file, consider taking a little metal from the cartridge holder of the moon clip

A demooner tool will help with the brass, but as others pointed out you need different thickness moon clips for different brass.

Try Supplies for the Revolver Enthusiast, they have a variety of sizes to choose from w/out a huge expense. I found Remington & federal brass fit .025 best, Winchester .022.
