New SW1911SC normal or problem!?

...and more...but with the guns assembled none of these marks show.

Every smith 1911 that I ever seen has had the same marks. When I got my PD in 06 it had them and I was afraid something was wrong also. But after talking to S&W And seeing others with the same marks I was ok. Now after 6 k rds and zero problems I believe your 1911 will be ok. Best of luck.

I stand corrected. Obviously the latest and greatest S&W 1911's now have the window cut completely out vs closed across the top. I have learned something new.
Thanks
Chip King

I do not see anything wrong apart from ordinary wear on the rails.

And, the notch in the frame mentioned in Post 11 is normal also. While the original 1911s did not have the notch cut completely out, it was discovered later that frames tended to crack over time in that location, so Colt introduced the full cut-out at the slide stop tab in the high pressure 10mm Delta Elite. That type of frame was phased into all production, regardless of caliber over at Colt. Only some "reproductions" from the Colt Custom Shop now use the old style frame with the thin "bridge" of metal on the slide stop cut out. Most other manufacturers took note, and therefore most use the type of frame with the full cut out at the slide stop tab. There is, therefore, nothing wrong with your pistol that I can see. The attached picture is a Colt 1911 with the so-called 10mm cut, now standard except on certain reproductions, to eliminate the stress cracks that are problematic on the narrow "bridge" of metal on the older style frame cut out shown in Post 11. Please also note the rail wear marks on the Colt, which are completely normal.

Thanks, and thanks to everyone that helped, it does make me feel a little better, except your guns look like they have normal slide wear from shooting and these are gouges... I trust all of your expertise. Maybe it's because my gun hasn't been shot yet and if I put 250 rounds through it, it will wear and look more like normal wear. The Smith Dealer wants to see it Monday. They have a smithy they can smooth out the slide for me if they think it's nothing.

Thanks Smoke52 and the rest of you. I'm feeling better everyday, keeping busy, and waiting on my new AR parts for another project. Last night I took apart my Mossberg cruiser, and reoiled her.. Due to a new GG&G rail mount I received in the mail for my TLR1 making it HD complete. No contact from Smith yet, so I spoke with the dealer I bought it from,Standard Police Supply in Ohio, and they are helpful enough to take over and help me get this resolved. Thanks James! My third S&W From them, they're great people. I'll be happy when it's in a Fedex box for a look over. The slide has the be smoothed and the frame refinished or replaced. I've seen pics of old SW1911sc's with zero gouges just normal wear. If it turns out it is what is and is normal I'm gonna shoot the heck out of it and not look back, but at least they need to look it over. Next years bonus will be an Ed Brown Kobra... Commander...lol

Meanwhile my new AR parts to overhaul my AR15 come in tomorrow, and my brother happens to be in town for needed elbow grease.

Current Setup Stag Model 3 1/7 Twist Mil-spec 16" barrel, M16 Bolt Carrrier - Leupold VX-R Patrol - Streamlight TLR2 w/Red Laser - Grip-pod (steel reinforced)

Adding:

Diamondhead VRS 10.25"

Magpul Olive CTR Stock

Finally was contacted by a S&W Supervisor, now just waiting for a return ticket. :)
Feels good to get results and be over the initial shock..

Meanwhile my AR project is almost done. Got the new forend, but they forgot to put the low pro gas block in the package. On hold til Friday. The world must know I have a bit of time, lol.
I did get the new butt stock on.. I'll troll my thread tomorrow, unless no one wants to see rifle pics non-S&W lol

Nice looking AR! My dad just put a Trijicon on his Colt and is quite happy. He's had a Les Baer 5.56 on order for almost a year so who knows what he will mount on that! He ordered it on Valentines Day last year and was told about a year...so he plans to call on VDay this year to check up on it.

I'm waiting to hear from Smith. I am definitely sending it in ASAP. I'm waiting for a response for a return label. I agree with all of you. I wouldn't have paid this much if I'd saw that. I would have looked elsewhere. I'm confident S&W will take care of It.
I have the same wear marks in my 1911PD. I called smith and they want to see it and fix it. I'm convinced it has some burrs in the slide. As a result of this is has become very difficult to pull the slide back. are you experiencing this with yours?

Not familiar with the "E" series but compared to every other 1911 frame that I remember working on or looking at your frame is missing the top piece where the Slide release goes into the frame. That is normally a window with a rounded top and the upper rail is continuous above the opening NOT cut all the way through as in your picture. It surely looks like someone has "Bubbaed" that frame. Darn sure does NOT look like a new gun.

That"s a great observation. I wish i would have looked at mine before sending it in.

Have had a S&W 1911SC for 2 1/2 months now and nothing but problems. The scratches that you talk about is wearing down under the slide on mine and I've also had scratches under the safety latch. Told by S&W this is normal. If you ask me, poor design and quality control. Recently had the magazine release assembly break. S&W told me the parts are on backorder. Had to buy them somewhere else. Just had a trigger lock up at the range. The safety mechanism malfunctioned.

Don't get me wrong, I have 2 other S&W revolvers and love them but have had it with their 1911's. Time to go upscale.

Yes Vinny! I just got a Fedex label today. As I was packing it I racked the slide to make sure it wasn't loaded like always, and I was thinking it a mutha to rack. Felt gritty. I even cleaned and lubed with Wilson Combat Ultimate lube. Something is catching. FedEx picked it up today. Relieved and anxious to get it back.

Yea this is not normal.. I've seen others without this issue. I'm saving up for an Ed Brown. I tried to return/exchange and they wouldn't. I hope it gets fixed. They saw the pics And said it wasn't normal. We shall see. If there's an issue I'll sell it.

I have to agree with you on this one, it needs to be looked at and made right. Anyone that knows me here, knows I am very tolerant of S&W and not very fussy for minor issues. I prefer fixing or touching things up myself when I can. But those pics are ugly, darn ugly for a new gun!

I don't think I would save up for an Ed Brown, the S&W 1911's are fantastic guns, ones you can be proud of. A little cosmetic issue, most likely caused by a missed burr is no reason to condemn them. I own somewhere around 7-8 of them, too lazy to go count, but I will say I have nothing to complain about. The scratch you or others have seen below the safety is common, not only to S&W 1911's, but to ALL makers of them. I purchased some touch-up tube paint, flat black from Birchwood\Casey... works great..

Hang in there, hope you get better fast.... I believe you'll enjoy that gun more than you realize. Use that ED Brown money for ammo!!

Do you have pictures of these issues... I've never heard of those kind of issues. How many rounds through it?

Good to know! Thanks I will feel better when I have it back and put a few hundred rounds through it. Meanwhile I have my M&P 40c. Thanks for the best wishes.
