Next gun?

I just purchased my "next gun"...a nice Glock 19 G3. Now, for my next "next gun" I'm thinking of a bolt action rifle...probably a Ruger American in .270 or .308.

I can no longer, in retirement, buy guns. If I could, I'd love to find a nice 3913 or a replacement for the beautiful pre-B CZ75 I sold years ago.

Preferably the 3913.

Hell, I'd settle for a nice 469--I sold one of those, too. Liked that gun a lot.

Having two j frames makes a lot of sense. One for each pocket. I have two one wears Barami hip grips and the other has crimson trace laser grips. They both get carried a lot. They both carry a little differently.

Then I would save up for a bigger .357, an eight shot n frame is a joy to own. A model 327pc, or 627 UDR, would be my choices. Ed

Glock is a good choice my 26 is one of my favorite weapons. And after the ammo shortages, I became an advocate of having many caliber options available.

But, having recently been on a revolver binge, which started with a 642, I'd suggest a variation on the 357: a model 649. I just took my newly acquired 649 to the range for the first time last week, and was literally giggling from the concussion, muzzle flash and heat generated by that round. It would likely fit your holsters for 642, has single action capability, has more weight and a different shooting personality than the 642, but also is snag resistant. Just another option to consider. I also love my 686, but it is way too heavy for me to carry. Ymmv.

I have a snubby 66-3 and a 6" 686-4. I love both, but as someone else mentioned, a Ruger SP101 would fit your need at less cost than a S&W. The SP101 is available in a three inch barrel length, which would make for a good hiking or camping gun, as well as concealed carry. The .357 is just a hugely versatile caliber that makes it a top heavy hitter choice.

Having said that, I just bought a G19 Gen4 because I was lacking a high-capacity 9mm semi auto for HD/SD.

Since you are looking for a 357 and 4 inch barrel is ok (I was doing the same thing), you might consider this, a Ruger Match Champion. I picked this one up for $699, great stock trigger IMO. Fiber sights. Custom Hogue Grips. You need to hold one, feels really good in the hand, shoots better than I do. Some people don't like that the rear sight is not adjustable, but no problem for me.

Thanks for all the tips guys, and for pointing out specific options.

Seems I'm currently bouncing between a 637 to pair with my 642, and to have as a spare in case something happens to my 642 (even if not necessarily carried at the same time)

and picking up a 357 mag. I've been looking at the Ruger SP101, I think I'm leaning towards picking one of these up. I'd just love to have a 357, and it would fill multiple roles. Plus, if something stupid happens to my carry gun, I could always just carry the 357 while the 642 is being worked on. Which isn't gonna happen but I like knowing I can have something realistic to carry and not just be out of a carry gun for however long. I think the next course of action is to head over to the gun shop and look at some options. The Smith model 60 with a 3 inch barrel and adjustable back sights seems to be calling my name as well.

(I've been recovering from a surgery over the past few days, not able to drive or go out or go to work. So my days have been filled with trying to decide what gun I should buy next. Which is fun but I'd like to get one in my hand)

That's good thinking. I sometimes forget that I always have my pair of Glock 23s for carry--if one goes down for whatever reason, the other is there.

I think another snubby that would fit all your gear and ammo would be prudent.

If you do actually SHOOt a Model 60, and then the SP101 you'll put that 60 aside. The felt recoil differnce is astounding.
Then when you consider that the Model 60 is about $750, and the SP101 can be had for ~$500...well....need I say more?
Not bashing Smiths, but on THIS one the choice is clear.

Something that Kalifornia doesn't allow...

I was considering a Five Seven or PS90. I likely won't buy either - I have enough great firearms as it is.

The SP101 is looking fantastic from all the reviews. I was thinking about a 3 inch barrel, do you think a 4 inch is worth it? I was planning on loading her up with full power 357s (when I'm in the woods anyway)

As far as adjustable sights go, do you think they're worth trying to find one with them on it?

A 3" will serve your purpose well, as will the standard sights.
This gun seems to disappear rather quickly when sighted. I think people are starting to clue in about the value it represents, especially when compared with other 357's.

All good options, I think my next purchase will be a XD-s 9mm for summer carry. I have the PPKs now, but just moved to Vegas and I found that my sweat is causing a bit of rust under the grip so I may have to go back to polymer for summer carry.

I'm done for a while.
I have picked up 5 scince December.
4 Colts and an Iver Johnson.
No doubt, I will get the urge and do some research and hunt something down, but not anytime soon.

For a 357mag. A ruger security six(used) or a s&w m28/m27/m19.

For a 9mm luger the CZ 75 or CZ 85.used

Then what's left is do you want plastic or steel, New or Used?

The Glock is a great choice. I love my S&W revolvers, but the Glock 19 carries so nicely and conceals very easily with the right holster. If you are going to put any kind of pinky extension at all on the Glock 26, it will effectively be the same size as the Glock 19 when holstered and carried.

The 442 is another nice option. Lightweight J-frames are really nice, and if you've been toting around a 642 for awhile, you will definitely notice the difference.

4-inch K frames are nice, but that is a lot of gun to carry. In some hiking situations, I don't mind it, but as an EDC I find it to be a little much.

I want a Traditions muzzle loader....but even though I keep saying I am not buying any more guns I have picked up a 24-3 and 586 both NIB....a Colt 1908 vest 25...a Kahr PM909 NIB....a Winchester 37 410 ......since May.....

I'd go with the Glock 19. Believe it or not it takes up the same space as a model 36 snubby.

Very similar height, length and width dimensions, yes. However, when stuck in a pocket, the Glock will practically scream "gun" while the snubby will look like lumpy pocket contents.

I enjoy my Glock 23s greatly, and they are great belt carry guns. In a pocket though, there's no contest. And sometimes a belt gun just won't work. There's also the weight--loaded, the j frame is about 1 pound, while the Glock is 2 pounds. 2 pounds is manageable, but 1 pound is practically air-weight.

They both have pros and cons; I'm glad to own both. I do own two Glock 23s and only one S&W 442 though, so I suppose actions speak louder than words,
