Just got home with this. 4013. I expected it to be tiny like the 3913 but no way! It's almost duty-gun size but nice easy trigger reach and not bad pull either. Now I have to get some cheap ammo to test it out with. STRANGE cuts in the slide just got stranger when I saw the top of it.

if I had to guess, looks like someone did not like the grasping grooves and had them machined off, then refinished the slide.

pure guess on my part.

That is unique. Can't imagine it leaving the factory like that. But who knows? If you like having something that no else has, this is just the ticket.

I'll get more pics when I finally get my hands on it! It was sold to me NIB by someone I know and respect so I am left wondering was there ever a time when S&W added more "meat" to the .40sw slides?
Anyway I am so excited to shoot it. It will not be NIB for too long after I get it!

Different is Cool! I think SW CQB 45 is correct the angle of the "VOID" matches where the cocking serrations would be.

I checked mine. There are serrations just in front of the safety/decocker or whatever it is called these days.Your's looks to be milled out. The slide near the business end is not milled out on mine; it is a smooth surface that continues from the ejection port to the end of the barrel.

Can you take a pic of yours at on the same side? The extractor seems flush with the slide on mine. I would like to see some examples of others if I could.

It turns out this was done by Novak's. Yes I would rather have it stock as well. But at least it looks professional.

If it was done by Novak's it must be good

If it was done by Novak's i would have to guess it is safe and unique. I have had a lot of work by Novak's and Action By (T) both are excellent. different type of work but I have trusted my life for many years to both of them. Heck I think it looks neat and different. In the time of plastic pistols finding a unique piece is worth the little extra. I'll bet the dbl. action is smooth and ramp is slick.

I usually see that type of work on raceguns, not work guns, but it looks fine to me. Buddy of mine machines the grooves out of his 2011 front and rear serrations, then replaces them with cut-to-fit pieces of black grip tape. Looks cool, black on hardchrome, might look cool on yours.

4014

i have an identical 4014 in blue. it has the exact same cuts in the slide.
inside the slide is stamped "NOVAK 92 JESJ".
i believe these guns were purchased from the same original owner in Canada.
i've only had mine a few days & haven't shot it yet.
it's in mint condition with box but no 'novak' build sheet.
i contacted Novak but they have no records that far back(1992).
i would love to know what all was done to this classy pistol.

Here's what they look like when they haven't been f . . . uh, I mean messed with . . . no, I mean altered . . . oops, I meant customized, yeah that's it. Sorry, I get confused in my old age.

Removing those serrations...well, that just looks fugly. But the overall finish is good and it appears your gun has an action job and crowned barrel. If you got a good price for that, then maybe it wasn't a bad deal at all.
