Non-lethal weapons

A walking stick with a heavy end is good.
Pepper spray is ok too.
But dont get caught with a Sap or Black Jack or extendable Baton and things like them or you are in big time trouble in Ohio.

IMO, in order of effectiveness/ease of use (and depending on what's legal in your locale)
Taser
Chem spray (CS/CN/Pepper, whatever)
Club/sap/cane
Just my 2 cents, but I'd choose a CC handgun over any of those.

I will take the OP request at face value , nd not debate the IF or When .

There is NO single answer. The statutes and case law in the various jurisdictions is all over the map. Know the law , nd more importantly case law in your jurisdiction.

And varies a lot on the size , condition, level of training and experience , and personal experience of each person. I may favor options X,Y, and Z that doesn't make then prefered choices for someone else.

( Asuming legality ) OC , while not totally intuitive as some may think , does require the least training or able bodiedness , and is deployable beyond arms length. Usually. It will generally be effective , but the big varible is when. I have observed it take effect anywhere from instantanously to several minutes later, with first haand reports of taking up to 20min.

If you aren't already trained and experienced with a blackjack or ASP , you can't/ shouldn't just pick one up and expect to not be more of a danger to yourself than an attacker. And right there is a generational divide. Blackjacks ( aka Slapjacks depending on regional terminology ) were rapidly falling from favor with LE/ Corr/ Security by the early 1990's , primrily being suplanted by expandable batons. So by current times , somebody in their 50's used one back when they were a rookie.

And yes I knew people who actually used brass knuckles in SD. The resulys were highly vriable. They may well be visually intimidating for the collection of past due gambling debts , but for defending against attackers a blackjack is more verstile and dependable.

I read that the survival rate for handgun shootings is around 75%. I figure that's "non-lethal" enough.

A nylon stocking filled with dung...can wallop you pretty good at 2 paces.

I spat my coffee all over the keyboard at this one. :D

Certainly a winner in the weird-weapon category.

I do have a couple of questions, though, since I may follow through with adding this to my personal "arse"nal.;)

1. Dung: human, canine, or "other"?

2. In deploying this weapon, is the strike supposed to be accompanied by explosion of the device? In other words, is this supposed to be a "one and dung" event?

3. Pocket carry, or is there a holster you suggest?

4. Is it appropriate to carry a BUDS? (Back-up dung stocking)

5. Would this be effective against a dog attack? (I can see that it might, as it would distract them from the attack while they thoroughly sniff themselves.)

6. Would one have to go to a Stocking Dealer to obtain it?

7. Were these first developed by prison inmates? (I know their homemade knives are "shanks" -- would this one have been called a "stank"?)

The obvious question and one I don't particularly care to see answered would be fresh, dried or somewhere in between?
I think a well formed, dried cow pattie would be ideal.

I have to admit...I lifted the idea from Samuel Langhorne "Mark Twain" Clemens. He proposed using "stockings full of dung at two paces" for dueling. Thought it was a great idea! :)
