FIRSTLY MY APOLOGIES FOR STARTING THIS THREAD WITH BAD INFO CAUSING A GOOD DEAL OF CONFUSION.

HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THE HIGHWAY PATROLMAN 357 COMMEMORATIVE THAT I HAD POSTED RECENTLY WITHOUT FINDING ANY INFO ON THAT MODEL. EACH TIME THE MODEL WAS ENTERED THE ONLY INFO THAT CAME BACK WAS ON AN FBI COMMEMORATIVE M 27-3.
HAD A CONVERSATION WITH THE SALESMAN AT THE OUT OF STATE GUN SHOP WHERE THIS M 28?? IS LOCATED ASKING HIM TO FORGET WHAT THE TAG IS INDICATING AND LOOK AT THE MODEL # LOCATED ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME. HE CONFIRMED THAT INDEED IT IS A 27-3 FBI COMMEMORATIVE AND NOT A 28-3.

NOW LETS IF THE PRICE CHANGES.

What agency? My M28-2 is a Washington State Patrol Commemorative but it was released in 1982 (60th Anniversary of the Agency's founding). Only bright blue Highway Patrolman I've ever seen.

Not much to go on in the way of a description but I'd be really surprised if the 28-2 the OP is describing isn't worth a good bit over $1100.

If it is from 1984, as in the original post, most likely is a dash-3. No way to even SWAG at the value without SN and pictures. If it is a dash-3, it won't bring as good a price as a dash-2.

So, no. A -3 is not worth what a -2 is worth.

Whatever the dash, they are good shooters, maybe the least expensive full barrel S&W 357, and probably would go $550-$750 here. Condition of course is everything and without pictures and a look down the bore, it is only a guess from far away.

Wow, I would figure unless it was in terrible condition, that would be low for a S&W N frame. I must be outta the loop.

Around here, if, and I do mean if, you can find an N-frame in any caliber, it's likely going to start at $900 unless it has mechanical issues or is rusty. The days of Model 28's selling for $500-$600 are in the rear view mirror.

I had a FBI commemorative that I took on trade a few years ago and could not sell it… It was perfect but again, commemoratives just do not seem to be sought after unless the customer has some interest in the department. Finally found a contact at Quantico and sold the gun to a new agent who had been searching for one. I got $750 for it.

I just purchased a 28-2 (68 I believe) on GB for $850. It wasn't a commemorative but the box, docs and tools were all there. I would say excellent condition but it had some use and I had to clean it up. I would note that there were no other bidders so people weren't breaking the door down to own it. Maybe because it looked to have blueing lose in the pics but it turned out to be very slight. I think it was a fair deal. I don't see any 28-2's with an S prefix in that condition selling for less anywhere.

As for commemoratives I'll pass. Usually over priced and hard to unload.

A model 28-2 or 3 would have to be in like new condition with everything it came with for me to consider parting with $1100.

I know, they get listed for a lot more but that doesn't mean they get sold for that price.

I bought one off a retired agent a couple of years ago. I paid $1500 for it, I had wanted one since 1985, so I took advantage of the opportunity. I'll never shoot it, as I have several other shooters that I don't get enough time to shoot. The FBI Commemorative is a 27-3 five inch barrel. I have not researched how many were made.
