Hi There,

I promised a member to post pics of the extractor gear from my
3rd Model Russian. This gear is significantly different than ones
used in the American models. As one can see, the catch window
is a different shape. So, it is going to require to make significant
modifications to the replacement gears sold on GB. Check out
the pics.

Cheers!
Webb

Thank you. When mine arrives from Wyoming I'll check it against your pictures and see if it'll function in my revolver. If not, I may be asking for your advice.

Well, I decided to check on that. So, I removed the original gear
from my #3 3rd Russian and inserted the replacement gear. It
doesn't work exactly as it should. It will operate the extractor
but when the barrel reaches the end of its travel, it will not trip
the gear catch. The extractor stays up. It will slowly retract
as the barrel is brought back to the closed position and will latch.

There is a small projection on the original gear that raises the
gear catch slightly so when the barrel reaches full open, the
flat under the extractor housing will finish raising the gear catch
which allows the gear and extractor to return to its start position.

See pics.

Cheers!

Hi There,

Seeing that I disassembled my No. 3 for an issue with the gear
catch, I thought I would post a pic of the gear. This gear is of
the type before the Russian contract and the change to the first
tooth to make it double wide.

Believe it or not (apologies to Ripley), this gear is an example
of the third type extractor gear.

Cheers!

It seems I got lucky. I had to tweak the gear to make it fit and I used a punch to simulate the pivot pin while I tried the gear in different orientations. I found the sweet spot I guess because the extractor functions exactly as it should. When you break the action, it extracts the empties and it snaps back when the barrel at the full break position. Thank you for sharing your experiences and information. It was a big help to me.
