I know there has been a lot of information on different NY-1 guns but I recently got a 4” 64 NY-1 on a trade and am wondering the market value? This is not a DA only gun so figure it was never issued and maybe just an overrun?

It may have been converted by one of your armorer colleagues, or was intended to be produced as a DAO gun but built as an SA/DA. I have not seen an SA/DA NY-1.

Photos would help for a value estimate.

Some of the last NYPD revolvers. Matte “vapor honed” finish cuts down on glare. Very neat guns.

I added a few pics with SA cocked and NY-1 stamp.

I sold one last year that was DA to a good friend with the stipulation that if he ever wants to sell it I get first dibs.

Sold for $475

I was thinking and hoping it would value about $500 since I got that in it... may list it here later.

I'm in Richmond. Where are you?

I scored a freakin' MINT round butt 4" 64-5 DAO NY-1 a couple weeks ago from a member here. The prices already discussed seem to be the low end of pricing on these guns. Bear in mind the square butt is nowhere near as rare as my round butt.

I had a chance to shoot the pistol a couple days ago and this double action trigger is so sweet. Extremely accurate, excellent shooting pistol. I'm partial to snubbies/3" barrels but the Model 64 4" is legendary. I've owned 2 now and regret more that I sold one of them than any other sale I've made.

This thread is quite recent and may be of interest to you:

Your correct that your revolver was either

1. an overrun frame that was never assembled or a complete firearm that never was shipped to the NYPD or
2. was sent back to the factory by the equipment section (unissued stock) when Sevice Revolvers were no longer authorized in 1993 which S&W in turn converted back to DA/SA and sold to distributors.

I would lean towards an over run frame because of the date of production which was when the first DAO NY1 revolvers were authorized (1987).

Either way a great gun to have in the collection.

Dates 1987 so it is very early without the extra serial number on side of frame and not matted finish per SWSC info.

I saw a 64 SB four inch at a gun show today, not an NY-1, they had $550 on the tag. I went past the table an hour later and it was gone.
