Official: Shield WITHOUT Safety

I called it an unsubstantiated rumor and said that I will wait for an official announcement from S&W. While whoever accused him of a hoax may have the burden of proof for said allegation, the OP still has the burden of proof for his claim.
While it would be a nice addition to the M&P lineup, there is still no word from S&W nor anyone who has even seen this vaporware.

Grant's word is gold when it comes to pretty much anything firearm related, you can presume it to be true. When it come a to M&P, he knows his stuff. He's a certified armor and LE dealer, consultant and high volume dealer.

No, it's not the same at all. The firing pin on a striker fired pistol isn't "cocked" until the trigger is pressed to the rear with about twice or better the force required to fired a single action 1911 style pistol. A striker fired pistol is much more similar to a double action revolver than to a cocked single action pistol with the safety off.

Too much generalization. Striker fired pistols run the gamut from totally uncocked to fully cocked and trigger pulls similarly run from substantially more than a single action pistol to roughly the same.

Most striker fired pistols are fairly obscure as to the degree to which the striker may be pre-cocked. However, look at the actions on a Walther P99, HK P7, or even a Luger, which are some of the more obvious examples of the wide range of striker fired pistols.

I don't understand this hatred of safeties...Glocks have ruined a generation of shooters...

I'll be happy to give you my opinion on the subject. I don't hate safeties on some guns, but on others they are just plain useless to me personally.

You can tell by my name I am a 1911 guy, and even with that platform I have to use a special low mount safety due to my short finger/hand configuration. when I got my M&P 45C I bought it with the thumb safety, in hopes I could emulate the 1911 platform some what, but quickly figured out I could not shoot the gun with my usual thumb high hold so I removed it completely and filled in the holes with S&W plugs.

I have looked at the Shield and am pretty impressed, but have hesitated to buy one because there is no way I am going to trust flipping off that tiny safety in a life threatening situation. Leaving the safety disengaged all the time is not very comforting as I would always be wondering if I have inadvertently flipped it to the on position. That could be real ugly at the wrong time.

Hopefully you have a better understanding on why some folks don't like safeties on guns that really don't need them or don't fit ones shooting format.

I guess i really have no excuses for not considering one now other than the sad fact that there is no 45 caliber offered in the Shield. I would really like to see a M&P competitor to the XDS. Just one guys opinion.

Received info today that these will be shipping on/before August 1st.

This will be very good news to many, including me, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever mentioned a single stack Shield 45 that would compete with the XDS? Please tell me there's hope.

I love my 40 Shield, however I carry LEFT handed and I must remember to take off the safety every time I carry. I almost wish I could trade mine in for a Safetyless 40 Shield. This is my everyday carry weapon. I also have an M&P 45 (4.5") but it has an ambidextrous safety.

Not even a whisper (so far) about a Shield45.
Building a .45 on a Shield Platform requires rebuilding from the ground up, whereas it was a lot easier for SA to start with the XD-S45 and 'scale it down' to accept the 9mm.

No not really, a vehicles brakes may wear down to were you might need to apply the emergency brakes on a steep hill to keep it from rolling, A gun will just never fire on it's own unless you alter the guts.

when you park your car, the brakes are not working new or wear down, it's held in place by transmission if it is automatic, the P is for park.

Got our shipment in today!

Holding the gun, it felt slimmer to me than the TS mode. So I got out the calipers and sure enough, it is about 20 thousandths thinner in the rear of the grip. Not a big deal, but you will notice if you own the TS model..
