Old Lobo is retiring

By hook or by crook I have ended up with a few of your holsters and the work was impeccable. Enjoy goofing off. You deserve it.

Good News

I just got off the phone with Ray from Lobo Leather. Ray advised me that he is in negations with an experienced, father and son, team of leather workers, who wish to continue the Lobo Leather brand. They will be offering the same range of products as Ray did.

If things go as planned they will be accepting new orders starting in early October 2015. I've already got my pre order in. I guess that's what happens when you've known someone 40+ years:D

Now that's the kind of news we needed to hear! :) :D

That's amazing news to hear! Hopefully the holsters retain the same quality as when Ray was putting them together!

Most welcome news -- thanks for passing it along.

Hopefully Ray will chime in here with a thread introducing the new bearers of the Lobo Gunleather name, and tell us a little about them. They have big shoes to fill in terms of craftsmanship, professionalism and reputation.

Great, I had not gotten off my tail and ordered a Combat Classic, maybe there is still chance I can come up with one when the dust settles.

Update on Lobo Gun Leather

OK, my friends, here is what is going on at this point in time.

The Fedders family of northwest Iowa has agreed to purchase Lobo Gun Leather, and we have reached a verbal agreement. For those who have never participated in the sale of a business, it is at least as complicated as the sale of a home or other real estate. Our agreement must be reduced to a written contract before any payments are made or received, and certainly before tools and equipment can be moved to the new production facility.

The Fedders now have a small leather business and are looking to expand their operations. Their knowledge, skills, and experience promise to provide a level of performance that matches or exceeds what my customers have come to expect.

The Fedders travelled over 700 miles to spend a week in the shop with me, looking over the operation and the books, and starting to learn the Lobo product line and production methods. They have specifically asked that I remain on staff as an advisor through the transition period, and that I be on site during the first few production runs to assure continuity in production and quality. We have also reached agreement on continuing to honor the product warranties for past and current customers.

In short, I feel very good about this. I think this will be something that is good for everyone concerned, including the customers.

Will try to keep you posted as this develops further, and let everyone know when new orders will be accepted.

Best regards to all.

Ray

Great news. I just got my order from Ray and my partner and I will be wearing Lobo Leather rigs for a revolver specific course we are teaching. They look great and glad I was able to get some unique "Made by Ray's hands" holsters and loader pouches. Wish I could post pics, but you'll just have to trust me on the quality and cool factor of a couple of 3" Model 66's with Nill grips on both in matching Combat Classics and loader pouches.

This is fantastic news. I ordered four holsters from Ray last year - their quality was outstanding and their price was very reasonable. I intended to make another order in early September so I was not happy when I learnt that he was retiring. As soon as the deal is (hopefully) confirmed and new orders are accepted I will place mine.

Ray, I've got a ton of belts and holsters, but the ones I USE are yours. THANKS for all the years of hard work and GREAT products. Looking forward to scrutinizing the "new guys" to see if they're up to snuff!

I've purchased five separate items from Ray over the past year or so. Glad and sad to hear of his retirement. Best wishes.

Congratulations Ray, enjoy it, I have several of your fine holsters.

I was wearing one yesterday at the S&W "OHIO BUNCH" MEETING.

GOOD LUCK!

So excited to hear this! Will the product line be the same as before?

The plan is for the product line to remain unchanged, and production methods will be substantially the same. I have been asked to be on site during the first several production runs to assist in maintaining continuity.

I feel like I must mention that no two craftsmen will ever do things exactly the same way. I have no doubt that the future will bring some changes, and probably a number of improvements as these very experienced leather workers develop the Lobo brand.
